Anybody actively hoping this happens or making fun of it is short sighted. Even the diehard SONY fanboys of this forum should be able to notice what a one horse race means for the future of the industry.

By "the entire internet" you mean a few thousand hardcores that make a hell of a lot of noise but ultimately affects knothing? These social media influencers have an inflated sense of importance in the grand scheme of things. The vast VAST majority of gamers don't have the first clue about any of this.
