Well, some are worrying it wasn't your opinion that swayed them--
We'd just finished safe-discrediting even loopier rumors that WDW was going to "expand" its Dumbo ride, when all of a sudden Disney embarks on an unnannounced strategic Shock-and-Awe Movie Strike to make us "suddenly" recall a bit of vintage character association...
(Qv. re-releasing "Peter Pan", just as they were toying with ideas for a Tinkerbell movie)

Could just be coincidence, but never underestimate Disney's efforts to "avenge" Dumbo...
It's almost as Ahab-ic as their continuing obsessions to "avenge" The Aristocats.

I am not getting what you mean when you say avenge this or that? What are they trying to avenge?

I think he's trying to point out Disney's synergy efforts. Re-release and old title to tie into a new product featuring the same characters (all the Marie merch for The Aristocats, Pete Pan's re-release to promote Tinker Belle Movie etc).

Though why he chose the word "avenge" over say, "reintroduce" is beyond me. Or why he thinks a proposed addition to the Magic Kingdom to increase park capacity and that of an already popular attraction is also odd.

Dumbo is a perennial - it was among the first animated features shown on Walt's "Disneyland" TV show (Alice was first), one of the first animated features released on a home video format, and has been in almost constant release on home video ever since. It is also a beloved and acclaimed film, I'm not sure what needs to be "avenged" either.

As for The Artistocats, well, it isn't one of the studio's crown jewels, although it has its own charms. Much like Robin Hood, it suffers from a lack of a strong central narrative, is episodic, and has spotty production values, despite some winning characters and Sherman Bros. songs. I don't know what needs to be "avenged" in this case, as the film really has no right to feel "wronged" by anyone.

Eric is a passionate fellow. I'm sure he'll be along to explain it all to us in short order. I imagine he's referring to that MiceAge rumour that Fantasyland in WDW is getting a makeover to compete with the Harry Potter land at Universal, and this would include an expanded Dumbo attraction.

Oh believe me I'm very well versed in this particular rumour, but I don't understand why a theme park revision (adding a second Dumbo with fancy queue and relocating the original) would prompt a re-release of a video title that has tons of them already.

How the **** did this thread go beyond one response? It's only coming out on DVD, like The Jungle Book last year.

Honestly I don't care about Dumbo and won't buy it when it comes out. I really despise Disney. Their pricing is awful.

Ohh, Platinum!...
D'ohh, forgot about Disney having upped the name status for upgraded 2-disk SD's, and now referring to all their seasonal-prestige Blu-ray+DVD's as "Diamond Editions", as of Snow White--
Well, coulda TOLD us that at the beginning!
(Although, technically, Jungle Book WAS one of the old-school Platinums, and should be showing up on Blu-ray sometime in '13.)

Knew something sounded phony, but I'll still wait to see which "Vault" teaser shows up in October.

Fantasia and Beauty and the Beast are it for 2010, aren't they? Doesn't bother me, I consider Beauty and the Beast to be the best non-Pixar Disney film ever and it should be quite stunning in HD, not to mention the audio.

I hear ya on that but what can you do? I was @ Disney last week and noticed they raised their prices by $4 on all parks. So it's $79/park/day. It's outrageous.

Wow, this thread is nuts.

Three Caballeros and Saludos Amigos were re-released as part of Disney's efforts to kill off the long defunct "Gold Collection" line and probably save money on manufacturing two separate discs for the movies by putting them on the same one. Again Eric I don't get why you think the Gran Fiesta Tour has anything to do with the plan of repackaging those old editions that has been happening for awhile now.

Also the BBFC confirmed the trailer. It's coming, even if Disney doesn't say so (like Bay Lake Tower or Star Tours 2), and since Luke doesn't post rumors on the main page of his site I wouldn't doubt this source.

And when was Jungle Book released last year? 2007 wasn't last year last time I checked.

I don't know what needs to be "avenged" in this case, as the film really has no right to feel "wronged" by anyone.
In Aristocats' case, it is "avenged"--
Namely, Disney trying to work out their frustrations over WHY the Tokyo and Paris parks still gush over Marie the Kitten on a 101 Dalmatians level, while in their hometown, they can't give the movie away for free.
(Probably because Ron Miller-era Phil Harris movies went out with bell-bottom pants.)

...You would not believe what a source of headbanging frustration this is to them, baffling every aspect of their marketing department to "reinvigorate"--
Darnit, it should work, it's supposed to work, it's worked elsewhere, why isn't it working??

Dumbo does not raise the same passions, but after that 2-disk that was supposed to have the New Video Sequel attached, there does seem to be innocent hopes that they've finally "resurrected" the movie from back when it was one of the Five VHS Orphans--
They successfully resurrected Alice, the Three Caballeros, and even Robin Hood out of the Orphanage, and now think that enough kids have also ridden the park ride to have sudden new identification with circus motif and a mute personality-less elephant..
Heck, if "Sword in the Stone" could be the last Orphan to get its "prestige" 2-disk upgrade, there's nowhere left to go but Blu; it's just "Why now?" that's the key question, let alone "Why interrupt the Platinum sequence?".
(Well, okay, there was the Caballeros, but that was also park merchandising, since the characters were going back into Epcot.)

(right on time: )
Yeah, we giggle-busted that one, but, like I said, now having these two rumors together at the same time is........kinda creepy.

I am not sure I believe this. Snow White was last released in Oct 2001, eight years ago. Pinocchio was last released in Oct 1999, nine years ago. Sleeping Beauty was last released Sept 2003, before it was released four years later. Okay that wasn't so long ago. But Dumbo was last released in June 2006, if it comes out this coming spring that would only be about three years. I don't think that matters so much since it isn't considered a Platinum title. Maybe they are releasing it, but I would suspect that it isn't going to get the BD treatment.
