That's why the nit race is all marketing, as usual, no different than chasing CPU specs back in the day.
I think the issue with lower OLED peak nits on some models is that HDR is often poorly converted into the lower range, rather than needing the picture to hit 1,000. Same thing with an LCD that only hits 600-700 really.

Ordered the set yesterday from Amazon Japan from my account that I’ve had open for god knows how many years…..wake up to an email from them this morning saying they’ve cancelled the order and closed my account due to suspicious activity. I now need to ring them should I wish to get it unlocked.

Thanks Amazon

Amazon is being a bit tipsy for me, too. I recently returned a UHD. I asked for the return two or so days before the return window closed. They gave me a printable label and I sent it off. Found an email about the refund I was getting. The UHD was $42, the refund $15...? Apparently a shipping fee, and a restocking fee. They said that either I returned it outside of the window, or it was damaged. I told them that I was under the impression that they have never added any fees if the return was damaged. And I told them that I asked for the return and label two days before the window closed. I asked them to do as they promised and give me the full refund. They basically refused, but by saying that they have no option on their side to do so and they hoped I understood. I was so surprised because they're usually very helpful.

I told them I did not understand and wanted the full refund. They said they couldn't, hoping I understood. I demanded to chat with their manager. Their manager said the same thing, but I told them that neither were correct, and I asked for the full refund. They obliged yet sounded as though the chat rep I was talking with suggested for me to speak with a manager. I told them that they did not ask if I wanted to speak with a manager. I asked myself. I asked why they hadn't suggested to speak with a manager and the manager said that they aren't allowed to suggest for a manager.

Not very good business practice. I know they have a strange way with delivering, but to speak with the chat rep is usually so much easier.

I always use the UPS Store or Whole Foods shipping option. I don't have to print anything off, bring a shipping box, and they simply scan the bar code sent to me via e-mail. They hand me a print out and that's it. Amazon then acknowledges the return and that a refund will be issued.

For the last couple disc returns of damaged items (scratched, unplayable, etc.) they only offer a credit for a future transaction or a full refund on my card. I then order the same disc again. Other than the change in return options, I have never had an issue.

Are there other audio tracks besides English and Japanese? I'm curious whether it's the same disc as the US one.
Here's a video
confirming this. You can see the Dolby Vision logo on all the 4k discs, which means that there would be a need to create two completely new entries for these editions on blu-ray.com that the trilogy set can redirect to instead of the old 2016 releases.

Hello, I have sent you a PM. This site’s notifications for them aren’t always obvious so just thought I would try this way too. I hope that’s ok. Apologies if not.

And that's without even going into the matter of limited color gamut and volume, both problems leading to washed out colors.

The upcoming 4-Film set from France seems to come with the DV discs of the first two, if Amazon's description is to be believed. The catch is that it only has the 4Ks.

Has been mentioned here already, but no one seemed to care (or everyone missed it).

In my case, the question that remains is whether they fixed the 2.0. Which I doubt - I never heard back from Sony after they sent me a useless 2nd DV copy of part II with the exact same problem and me basically writing them so.

Just get a good tv which can properly display hdr then you wont have to worry about getting these dv reissues or just keep your sh!t tv and keep double dipping on dv reissues. Fact is that hdr on a good tv will still look better than dv on a sh!t one.

DV on a TV is like a nasty VD.

The first film has better compression and grain on the DV disc, GeoffD did a big comparison, the first disc is just worse now

I'd save a bit on this compared to the Japanese set, but oh my god that case is awful! And I don't like SOS FANTOMES on it either!! Good alternative though, wish Sony would pick up the slack over here in the States. The Japanese set is sold out now iirc and I never got around to ordering it. I cry.

Wasn't sure where to post this, so apologies in advance. I was just browsing Street view, trying to map out a route to a new doctor's office, and I spotted this. I almost went right past it, but my brain caught it, and told me to have a second look.

This link should get you to the same place: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7535...cwMS4wKgBIAVAD

Are the Dolby Vision discs really worth the extra id spend buying the Ultimate Collection over the individual releases on eBay? I don't even have a DV capable screen but I know the encodes are better. I'll upgrade to a Sony set once I have some better cash flow and I'll be able to use DV then, but idk if I really want to spend that much for a *slightly* better experience in HDR 10.

You know that HDR10 does 10,000 nits just fine, right?
