Yes, but the issue is how much better than the DVD it is. Obviously a lot of people here feel it's barely a step up, when it should be leaps and bounds better (the way Braveheart is).

I find it odd how many people are satisfied spending the same money for something that's just "pretty good" or "better than DVD" when the same money can be spent on something that has actually had some effort put into it and is FAR better than DVD. Brings me back to the format war.

If DVD is your standard, perhaps higher standards are in order . . . DVD sucks, and is not the standard Blu-ray should be judged by.

I can talk only about myself, but I bought 6 films (including Gladiator) this week. I am not made of money but I don't mind spending it on movies I am interested in and Gladiator is a good movie.

Now what I don't understand is this. If someone is not interested in Gladiator (don't like the movie) then why troll a thread on it. If one cares and wants to see the movie then the option is watch an extremely crappy version on DVD or a mediocre copy on BD. Unless someone does not care about PQ, and then why troll about it not being good enough, why would you accept watching the DVD. Yes maybe one day Paramount/Universal will do this movie justice and it will look much better. But none of us know if or when this will happen so the only option if you care about quality is not watch the movie until a re-release or watch the BD (which is not as bad as all the people in this thread that have not seen it and try and convince everyone not to buy ity make it sound.

I agree with what you are saying to an extent, but I would still buy a movie I love over a movie I don't even if the former has worse PQ. I haven't watched the BD, so I can't give my opinion, but I wouldn't see anything wrong with calling it a decent enough release. The movie, sound, and special features alone would have to put it in that category.

Comparing BD's to DVD's isn't bad at all. If you already own the movie on DVD, how big of a leap the BD is over it should matter. Chances are if it is a big leap over it's DVD counterpart, then it's a good release. I'm not saying that Gladiator's PQ shouldn't have been better, but not every release will be perfect.

Dear Santa,

All I want for Christmas this year is for this thread to die. Please deliver this request early and I will leave you a plate of my Grandmothers secret cookies she bakes from the French hills of tollhouse. Thank you and for all those who continue to post, please leave them all a Blu Ray copy of The Arrival in their stockings.

Thanks big red. (Not Helboy).

Visually, Gladiator on BD is a 43.2% improvement over DVD...

People complain because it is such an amazing movie with such a pathetic, shoddy, LAZY release on Blu-ray. Our passion for the movie is what drives our response. Its that f*cking simple.

It loads the leaf icon and it goes black... I still haven't watched it yet.

Edit: 7 mins of blackness...firmware 3.0

Those of your that're having issues getting it to play- it's more than likely trying to download the trailers/commercials before the film. If you can't get it to go, just disconnect it from your network. It'll skip it and play the film.

I really don't know what the big deal is. If you don't want to buy Gladiator on blu, then just don't. Period. Some of us love the movie and we don't mind a less-than-perfect transfer. Shouldn't this be that simple?
