Well if everyone would just agree that Elvis is the King and knows what he talking about this thread would have been over a long time ago!

Hey, I just got it today and I'm watching it... call me crazy: it's really not that bad! And it certainly looks waaaaaaay better than my old DVD copy!

Has anyone had any problems loading the disc in their player. My copy won't load. I get the loading image and then the screen goes black. Any suggestions?

Just got back from Best Buy, it was between Braveheart or Gladiator. I rented Braveheart the other day and loved it! Will add to the collection at a later time.

But Gladiator is an amazing movie, and i really wanted to get this to begin with, now that people have mix feelings on it. I held off in buying it until theres a better version. But i couldnt resist today. I made the purchase, now im thinking about it will i be really disappointed. Should i just return it? and get Braveheart..

I had the same thing happen to me when I loaded the latest firmware on my PS3. I will disconnect it from the network tonight and try it again. It loaded fine before the update. Will see when I get home.

Have you been out of the building again?
I just checked Amazon and Gladiator dipped below Braveheart!

Get on the stick, man!

Well they're equally good movies and Braveheart is by far the better transfer so there's no reason why you shouldn't exchange, unless you reeaaaallly love Gladiator that much more than Braveheart.

It really comes down to which movie you like better. If you like Gladiator better, then keep it. Just because the PQ could have been better doesn't mean you shouldn't own it if you love the movie. I skipped it and have Braveheart coming, but that's because I like the movie better.

Yes, 35mm has more details than 1080p. I think even 16mm could match 1080p. Digital cinema cameras are moving beyond 1080p

Yes blu-ray is not the eternity, however, blu-ray is really stretching realistic home theater capabilities and any gains beyond blu-ray would not be significant as DVD to blu-ray transition. Hence, I expect blu-ray will last for a longer time than DVD. Large commercial theaters would definitely gain from higher res formats.

I think BD will have a longer life as well, but I am guessing when DVD came out you thought the same things you are now (i.e. that it so good you can't imagine something better being needed)

For what it's worth, IGN just gave Gladiator a 10/10 for picture quality, and Braveheart an 8/10.

Quote:
The Sapphire Series Blu-ray of Gladiator is a testament to the true potential of the format. Gladiator sets a new benchmark for Blu-ray video quality.
I'm apparently one of the "idiots" who thought the whole thing was blown way out of proportion and didn't think Gladiator was nearly as bad as people were claiming, but I certainly wouldn't have scored it higher than Braveheart, let alone a 10!
