Last 2 concerts I actually paid for were Guns N Roses in 2016 and Iron Maiden in 2022, both concerts I paid no more then 80 per ticket with fees.

I did manage to get a concert this year for my wife and I $55 per ticket to see a symphony play John Williams music as a date night in June.

Otherwise most concerts I saw between 2016 and 2018 I was working for the local concert promoter as a part time job. I wouldn't pay these prices. When Metallica last came on their 72 seasons tour in 2023/2024 they wanted 200+ dollars per ticket and it was the same seats as when I bought Maiden for 80. And they made you go to both shows and you couldn't scalp tickets. So it was like a grand for both days total 4 tickets. Ive seen Metallica 3x already not paying those prices.

Prices have gone up and they're certainly not cheap like they used to be. However, they're not terribly expensive. Depending on who you see. I can go to concerts here for relatively cheap. If you're going to see Dylan or McCartney you're going to pay. Most of the ones I go to see don't cost much. And if they do go up, I'll pay that because this is how they make their money now. Streaming has pretty much killed the industry and we just now seeing the writing.

Prices have gone up, but a lot of that can fall on the artists who help set prices, if I'm not mistaken. They could at least. And for some of those I don't mind. But for the Mega Stars, I do. Taylor Swift could have easily fixed her ticket issues, but refused to. A lot of these big artists do. They don't care. Beyonce is charging outrageous amounts of money for her concerts this year. Tom Petty had a song about that 23 years ago. His song came true to an extent.

Even after adding in inflation...it just costs more to see a show today, than it did 10, 20, or 30 years ago.

The bigger the venue, the higher the price. That has to happen because of the amount of manpower it takes to put the show together and to move it from city to city. They need to make a certain amount just to keep the tour on the road.

Ticketmaster and the likes are just scams we have to deal with. Doesn't need to be, but here we are.

That is very good point to make. A lot of these big tours cost outrageous amounts of money to put on. I heard it cost something like 4 million a night to do the Eras tour.

I'd agree that big stadium shows cost more than arena shows to put on.

I imagine that they are about the same depending on the tour itself. If an artist is playing both stadiums and arenas on the same tour, I imagine it would be the same cost for both. As the setup will be the same. Most artists these days have everything choreographed and detailed down to the second for concerts. I don't know if it's fear or whatnot. Tori Amos mentioned that in an Youtube interview recently. She noted how many artists don't fly without a net when performing. Which makes you wonder if some of these artists are really performing.

I always thought it was strange to see some of these artists do really complex dance routines on stage while singing. You would almost have to be out of breath to be able to do one of those things. Much less both. Artists like Rufus Wainwright or Celine Dion most certainly couldn't sing and dance at the same time. Their voices require way too much control and breath to do otherwise.

Of course, I could be wrong, But it does seem odd. Have you noticed how these artists that sing and dance at the same time have very thin vocal delivery or skills in that department. They can sing, but not that well or not with that much range. Again, this could all be wrong. Going back to the main point, though, these tours are setup months before the tour kicks off. It's not like it was 30-40 years ago. Then you didn't have a whole lot of theatrics. Not with a lot of the artists performing. You had some, but it was not on the level of a Taylor Swift or a Beyonce. Not even Madonna was as elaborate as she is now.

A couple of points for you here. First, if an artist is doing arenas AND stadiums, the setup won't be the same. The stadium show is going to be bigger. People in the nosebleeds wouldn't be able to see an arena sized show in a stadium.

Second, a lot of people don't understand what goes into a big production show. If the lights are flashing to the beat of the music and there's images showing in time to the music, they have to play to some kind of click track for that to happen every night. The light show is computer programmed so it's the same every night. That means, people on stage need to be in the same place every night so they're lighted properly. That's just the way it is. Tori Amos doesn't do that and never has. Her lighting is more atmospheric. When I saw her it was minimal but perfect for the music she was playing.

Yes. I understand all that and those are some good points to bring up. However, when an artist does a tour of stadiums and arenas together it will be pretty much the same show. Sure, you are going some differences such as large screens at stadium shows. But they're really not that much different from the large screens used at arena shows. The general point was that an artist is not going to travel with two totally different types of staging and whatnot for one and the other. That's just not very practical. Plus, it's added expenses they don't need to be paying for.

You're wrong. That's exactly what Roger Waters did with The Wall tour. He played arenas during the week and while he was doing that, they were building the bigger set for the stadium show on the weekend. I have video of the arena show and I saw the stadium show. Definitely not the same staging.

We have had an artist cancel a concert we will get a refund of the cost but not the booking fee etc, it’s £25! Surely the artist shoukd weather this cost as they cancelled the concert, I shouldn’t be out of pocket.

Yes, and you'd think they would. Sadly, these artists don't give a flip about their fans. Swifties swear by how wonderful she is to her fans. However, when that whole fiasco with Ticketmaster happened, nada. All she could do was muster a half-hearted apology saying how sorry she was. Sorry don't count. Again, these artists could give a flip about you. Not all of them though. The Cure had issues with Ticketmaster around the same time as Taylor. Yet, they went to bat and fought Ticketmaster. I'm not blaming artists really, though. Once people get a lot of success and fame they tend to lose sight of what got them there in the first place. Fame is a powerful drug. Ticketmaster is also an unyielding beast. It really conflicts me. Hence the rambling back and forth.
