Well then, at least Blu-Ray and HD DVD could agree on one thing

My friend asked me today why DVD Forum chose red for HD DVD and BDA chose blue for Blu-Ray when both technologies use a blue-violet laser. I don't know. I told him red was chosen for HD DVD because it was created by Satan.

Anyone know the real answer?

It's meant to show the backwards compatibility with traditional DVD which is based on Red Laser technology.

But don't tell your friend that. As far as the outside world is concerned...YES...Satan contols HD-DVD. Show them some scary scriptures from the Book of Revelations or something.

My guess here is just because blu ray you think the color BLUE, and red is the opposite and well since they compete against each other it makes sense, plus the HD DVD boxs are red

Well think about what things are red. Blood is red, Fire is reddish, and Wine is red... I don't think that's by accident. HD-DVDs are bloody awful, if you buy one you get burned and they making you start drinking.

Well red is the most flamboyant color for the human psyche and sends a Warning! Alert! Look at me! signal to the brain because, in ancient times, if you saw lots of red near you, something was terribly wrong, or dying.

the packages are roughly (let's face it even all BD packages are not exactly the same) the same because they wanted something that would fit the disk but was different so that people don't get confused, they also wanted something that looked a bit fancier. In the end there are not that many choices and they both picked similar designs.

As to the colours HD DVD could not pick Blue, and my guess is that someone had a sense of humour and picked red to mean "STOP, DANGER don't be an idiot and buy this"

Still means the same thing, their format is dying.

In the metaphysics of the New Age Prophetess, Alice A. Bailey, in her system called the Seven Rays which classifies humans into seven different metaphysical personality types, the first ray of will-power is represented by the color blue. People who have this metaphysical personality type are said to be on the Blue Ray.
This is one way of looking at blue.

And those that break form factor pay for it with walmart.

Did you ever wonder why one year, we just stopped seeing the big boxes for pc video games, and instead the smaller dvd boxset sized cases?

I didn't think it mattered that muc

But, as mentioned a couple of times, I think Satan has something to do with it.

I beg to differ. More of a burgandy-brown. The color of crap, much like it and the formats before it.

In my heart I know blu-ray is the best HD video experience a consumer can get, but I would have thought 2 and 3 times about it if it came in that color. Ugh. I still want to backlight my blu-ray discs.
