I believe they are for the newer blu-ray profiles coming out for PiP and java based blu-ray discs (bd-j) coming out in the future. Directv's remotes have the same colors on their remote. They are used for stat tracking and to bring up the mini guide on the newer d-tv receivers. To my knowledge they are unused right now, or at least I don't have a disc that uses em'.

They are going to be for upcoming features like BD-J games and such. Right now they are used in handling bookmark functions in some movies. Which still involves BD-J. If there are any other current uses, I am unaware of them.

I don't have the Blu-ray movie remote but I noticed that Lionsgate's Dr. Strange had this "blu-line" (or something like that) thing to control the movie (fast forwards and such) and it used the color buttons. (I used the game controller so I brought up the buttons using the triangle key.)

enjoy

Yeah, some newer Lion's Gate movies use them for menu navigation and bookmark functioning as mentioned above, but that's about it for now.
