It looks like LG is the only other company with Netflix. Am I just borrowing more trouble with LG? Are their players any good? Their reviews seem more favorable than Samsungs.

Or...would I be better off just buying another Sony (I love my Sony 350 bedroom player- never has a problem) and just get another Roku box for my Netflix fix?
Sony is coming out with a new player that will do Netflix (and a slew of other free media, like YouTube, Slacker radio, etc.), the BDP-N460.

You should wait for it to hit and add it to your list of potential players. It will have an MSRP of $249.99, and is supposed to hit around 10/7/09.

I have high hopes for this player, and plan to pick one up myself if things turn out right.

i have a question for folks with blu players that have netflix streaming built in, when you stream a netflix blu-ray movie that is listed with HD-Audio, do you get HD-Audio or only the core codec in eithe r5 or 7.1? with xbox you only get stereo, not even the core yet. so for me it sucks so far. if they gave me at least the core codecs i might be happier but stereo?

Netflix streaming does not support HD audio or 5.1 through any device at this point.

I've got to ask the question... If Netflix streaming does not have HD audio, what is the big appeal? I've invested a lot of money in a both the TV and sound system and if I'm not going to enjoy both the picture and the audio quality, why even use the streaming functionality?

For me, I love to watch the independent films that I would probably never watch otherwise. Anyone who is a fan of independent films knows that it is possible to enjoy great movies that have far less than stellar audio and picture quality. Speed Racer is great and all.... and I love to watch movies with reference video and audio as much as the next person... but I also like to watch movies that aren't necessarily made to appeal to the masses (or least common denominator if you will) too.... and very often those types of films just don't have the budget for HD audio and video. Does that mean they aren't worth watching? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I hear ya - Didn't mean to disrespect anyone's watching habits or styles... Maybe I've been brainwashed by all the HD soundtrack hype over the past couple of years.

In my opinion, the rentals alone are worth the cost from Netflix. The free addition of the Instant View movies is just a bonus.

Before upgrading my entertainment system with a Samsung UNB7100 55" LED TV and a Samsung HT-BD1150 Blu-Ray home theater system, I used to watch the Instant View movies on my PC. The picture quality on a good monitor was fine... and the sound (via headphones) was never an issue either.

Now that I can stream the movies to the TV via the Samsung home theater system, the picture is usually excellent... often HD (just depends on the movie or show)... although certainly not up to full 1080p Blu-Ray quality. But still very good.

* The better/faster your Internet connection the better the quality of the streaming material.

Nor has the sound been an issue. Again, its not Blu-Ray and I'm not actually sure what type of audio is being streamed in (again, it may just depend on the particular movie or show being streamed). But the audio usually does hit all 5 speakers and it definitely drives the sub-woofer.

* Samsung released firmware updates this month to add UTube and other on-line sources to their Blu-Ray players. Updates for the HT systems will roll along later this year.

* There is an audio syncing issue with some of the Instant View material... generally with some older movies. Its rare... but annoying when it happens.

* Although there are tons of great movies to stream, for me the best value has been to queue up various full seasons of TV series that I missed or never watched. (Lost, Heroes, Sanctuary, etc).

It saves a lot of time to be able to watch a 1 hour episode (no commercials) in only 39 minutes. And when you stop watching a movie or episode, the Netflix (or Samsung) software always remembers where you stopped... for all movies or shows... so you can easily resume watching it later.

* Not a bad deal overall... for no extra cost. Via my high speed wireless router, we have 4 members of the household streaming movies to their laptops via wireless... plus the hard-wire connection to the Blu-Ray player and my desktop PC. My kids also take their laptops over to friends house, Starbucks, etc... and stream from there. Mobile movies.

Does anybody here have experience with the Samsung BD-P3600 or BD-P2500 models. I want to use it with Netflix, but have no idea if its any good. Or any other recommendations??

Thanks.

wow, i didn't know that, if that's true, then why do i see some folks saying that the deal breaker for them not getting a unit is it doesn't stream netflix? do they not realize that it's not even core 5.1 only stereo? that sucks cause i can stream 5.1 video off the web to my pc, WTF netflix?

720P is an HD resolution as well, but it is highly compressed when streaming. Again... it's not always about the video and audio quality.

Agree. My wife and I love watching these hard to find foreign films. Yeah, I love 1080P as well as the next person but for these movies I can live with lower video quality.

I'm on the edge joining Netflix one movie a month rent for the exact same reason you state. I have a list of dozens of hard to find, foreign and cult flicks that Netflix seems to have and it will be nice to have this option available if you just want to "watch" a movie some night. just dragging my feet because of knowing that I will be having 8.99 charged to my credit card every month (if that's how it works) and the problems that could cause if I decide to cancel.

Thanks. I did not know about this Sony unit and the price is right, especially with all of the extra features.
