I'm hopeful the Atmos mix will sound more like the original in terms of balance but I won't hold my breath.

In my opinion, this is the pecking order:

1. Theatrical DTS
2. DTS LaserDisc
3. LPCM LaserDisc (Dolby Surround)
4. AC3 LaserDisc
5. DTS DVD
6. 7.1 3D Rydstrom remix

Everything else is unacceptable or compromised in some way.

I had both the AC-3 and DTS Laserdisc and even if the surrounds were up 3 dB, it worked and balanced out the atmospherics better than the subdued DD track. Sometimes back then the remix was better refined than the theatrical auditorium, far-field mix.

Yes, it certainly was. Skin texture, cloth texture, was much improved, as was film grain. However, they failed in the colour correction department and the whole thing looked too dimly lit.

Nice job there It is a true new master, but just for audio. I highly doubt (but could be wrong) they did anything to the video outside of a DV regrade. That will be on the next carrot dangling release to make you buy it again.

By the way....how is the JP movies costing nearly twice as much as the JW movies with these new releases? That's a bs cash grab.

My guess is because there's no demand for yet another shameless redux of the JW movies. I'm sure they have their fans and all, but the group calling for yet another JW release is likely outnumbered at least 20:1 by the group calling for a remastered JP release.

Allegedly, the OCN for JP1 is lost, which if so is a tragedy. If it's not lost, simply restoring it properly and doing DV on it will be a massive leap over the old disc.

And also, there's nothing stopping a lossless or uncompressed encode of the OG 5.1 track on both formats. It's 2025. Restore the original film, restore the original credits, restore the original sound, drop it on a disc, everybody goes home in a Cadillac. I don't know how this hasn't happened yet, especially considering who the director is.

OCN or not a Vinegar Syndrome style IP scan would be epic.
