It is a quite interesting cinematography. I saw the movie in theatre and at the time I had never seen this kind of image before, it felt so modern.

Same. Lost World is lightyears ahead of the other ‘sequels’, none of which I consider canon.

Yes, Lost World gets a little flabby in the third act, and Kelly is quite annoying, but I can forgive all that because those set pieces are just incredible.

The dinos look amazing, mainly because Spielberg uses Stan Winston’s puppets as a visual guide for the animators, and he always has the dinos interact with real world objects which tricks the brain into buying into the CGI creatures. Also, it’s all shot on film which always brings life, texture and ‘smell’ to the image.

The Jurassic Worlds look like Pixar by comparison.

I like how dark Lost World gets,
[Show spoiler]Eddie
getting tossed in the air and ripped in two by a pair of T-Rexes was a jaw-dropper, the film is PG in the UK!

The raptor attacks are nail biting too.

I kinda don’t care about the pacing towards the end because the T-Rex looks gobsmackingly real stomping around the city. Nearly 30 years old and it outshines modern effects by far.

Goldblum, Postlethwaite, Vince Vaughn all bring buckets of charm, and the film has some of Spielberg’s most tense moments. Seeing the trees shake as the T-Rexes approach always gets my fear gland pumping, even though I’ve seen the film countless times, it’s Hitchcock level suspense.

The new UHD looks great from the caps, although… I kinda liked the noir-ish blackness of the old disc, here’s hoping there’s plenty of scary shadows alongside the grain and more vivid colours…

I dont know if it's been mentioned yet in here but the last 2 Jurassic world movies are the same as the previous 4k. I put in fallen kingdom and it had resume movie with me putting it in for the first time.

It did make better use of Dr. Grant than Dominion did. I love JPIII. It is 90 minutes, but it’s a fast 90 minute Dino action movie. It’s definitely not trying to be anything else

I can’t get past the talking raptor, Grant using a magic whistle to make raptors run away, and that annoying kid who was in everything back then. I’d take Kelly over that brat, and that’s saying something.

It’s a pale imitation of the Spielberg efforts, by a director who has no idea how to generate suspense, nor make things feel real.

I guess you’re right that it’s 90 minutes of harmless corn, but I’d like to see a lot more from a film stamped with the Jurassic Park seal.

He'd only been in 6 films by the time Jurassic Park 3 came out. I never found him annoying personally. He like, barely does anything in the movie except exist. Your attitude about fictional teens played by real people is...very normal. lol

Halfway agreed. You could do a lot worse. In fact...

...the World movies should be buried deep within the Earth. The Lost World ion the other hand is underrated and pretty excellent despite losing steam at the end! I wish the full T-Rex bedroom scene would come out some day.

My two cents: Lost World is great, even underrated, though flawed.

It’s actually the only sequel I think is genuinely good, though JP3 is a guilty pleasure and Jurassic World is watchable (and was even a fun and memorable experience with a crowd on opening day). Both JW sequels suck, though the middle film is the worst of the bunch by far for me because it’s boring and dull. At least Dominion’s extended cut has a cool opening.

But Lost World is the only sequel that is still a good movie. Great practical effects, great suspense. Great sense of adventure and threat. I like that it didn’t just repeat the first movie. Yes, some characters and moments are annoying, and there are some plot holes, but it’s still got that Spielberg magic. Time has been kind to it as well, as you can see just how well made it is as a movie. Great Williams score, great cinematography, good location photography. It doesn’t just look like everything is shot against a greenscreen.

Also I love the third act, seeing the T. rex in San Diego, I never understood why people hated that. Maybe it’s the inner Godzilla fan in me. The effects looked great (even now almost 30 years later) and it’s a fun sequence that is very different than anything else in the original trilogy. There are some good easter eggs too, especially in the video store crash.

I think the SD ending in TLW is more fitting for its respective film than the final act for Raiders of the Lost Ark (at least in terms of what I was prepared for on first viewing).

First of all, thank you for the comparison, very interesting. Can you also say something about the finale with the fire? The colors are beautiful in this 35 mm trailer.

I'm torn between the two. On the one hand, your 35 mm images look much better than the new Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc. It looks very stylish and has a darker feel to it. On the other hand, it reminds me a bit of the color grading of Jurassic World, which I never liked.
Nevertheless, it is the task of a restoration to recreate the original look.

The first two pictures with the excavation and the plane look a bit strange in general. In the trailer, the shot with the excavation contains more yellow. It's also interesting that the trailer is between the colors of your 35 mm images and the remastered Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc.

Could you also make a comparison with The Lost World?

I'm one of those who don't like the San Diego scenes. Jurassic Park and The Lost World have something so mysterious about them because the dinosaurs are far removed from our civilisation. The San Diego scenes, on the other hand, feel like Godzilla and are a strong atmospheric break from the rest of the film.
I also think the planned scene with the Pteranodons and the much longer Raptor scenes in the worker village are much better.

Since I pre-orderd both Jurassic Park and World but I'm not sure if it's worth keeping the Jurassic World steelbook since the last one already has both Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. No need to spend another $60+ for another collection that I already have multiple copies of.

I’m not upgrading the World trilogy. I’m tempted to with the Park trilogy; but is the remastering worth the upgrade (overall)?

Has anyone seen TLW upgraded to DV/DA on AppleTV? I've only seen JP and JPIII upgraded in the last few weeks. TLW is still showing HDR only (HDR10) for me

Hey now, the raptor going “Alan!” is the best part of the movie. It’s hilarious!

I think I’m literally the only person who liked Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The story was goofy but I actually dug the gothic horror vibe of it, and there were at least a few scenes I thought were genuinely scary. Kinda reminded me of Dino Crisis, that old Capcom horror game.

I liked Fallen Kingdom, too!
What really surprised me is the part
[Show spoiler]in the control room towards the end where Claire had to decide whether to release the dinosaurs or let them get killed by the poisonous gas because I felt like it was a very rare moment in the whole franchise where the audiences were actually forced to make a choice in their minds as the characters.

The GRUESOME Jurassic Park Ending That We Never Got To See - YouTube

Count me as another person that didn't care for the San Diego bit. They had quite the build-up to it, and then it's played for jokes, nullifying the context of what was happening entirely.

For me, The Lost World is just 'okay'. I think the story is solid enough and there's quite a bit to enjoy, when cherry picking moments. Overall, though, the film's pacing is in a constant tug of war with itself, leaving it to feel bloated and overly long.

I almost prefer watching Jurassic Park 3... because it lacks -so- much substance that it almost feels like the theatrical equivalent of a fun theme park ride, and to that end, it's a good time.

Jurassic World is by far my favorite sequel of the franchise, though Fallen Kingdom and Dominion left a -lot- to be desired, at least for me.

The light is better balanced in Dolby Vision, but The Lost World still has those crushed blacks. Pretty apparent at 1:24:47, when the hunter goes after the T-rex with his rifle.
