After walking out of Dominion I literally said "wow that was one big pile of shit."

I'm going to be that weird guy..

Jurassic Park
The Lost World
Jurassic World
JW: Fallen Kingdom
JW: Dominion
JPIII

I genuinely do enjoy the JW movies more than JPIII. I've always thought it felt slight, looked ugly and just brought nothing to the table. At least the JW movies, misguided as they often may be, seem to be at least aiming higher than JPIII. It would be a good pilot episode for a JP TV series but it's too weightless as a sequel to one of the biggest films of all time. JPIII recycles some weird things too that also make it (to me anyway) feel like a weirdly anemic retread of The Lost World. Kinda like how Terminator 3 feels like a diet/sugarless/flavorless remake of T2. It even has another person with a "lucky pack." That bothers me more than it probably should lol.

I like the pterodactyl scene. That's honestly pretty great and is responsible for one of the best and creepiest shots of the movie (you probably know the one I'm talking about).

The best I can say for JPIII, personally, is that I can actually see why people would prefer it to the JW movies. But....I'm just not feeling it. I wish I did. The JW movies do so many new and visually different things that I just can't help but enjoy them for what they are, misguided as they often may be..

Hmm... maybe I'll need to compare the Atmos to the DTS 5.1 on headphones and see if the differences bother me.

Thanks for the info.

Dominion is beyond bad, it’s broken. Trevorrow was evidently incapable of blocking scenes or at least shooting workable coverage and it resulted in abject horrors trying to salvage it in the edit. Say what you will about JPIII, but at least it looks like a movie.

Glad to see all the hate for Dominion. I remember when it came out trashing it and getting push-back on here.

I hated FK when I first saw it, but I’ve come to appreciate it over the years. Aside from the dinosaurs dying (which is indeed a downer), I think the film’s biggest problems are structural. It rushes through the island destruction bit and slams headlong into a haunted house Dracula riff that I think nobody was expecting. The film doesn’t transition between moods, one just abruptly stops and the other starts. But the set pieces are somewhat unique for the franchise and J.A. Bayona is a MUCH better director than Colin Trevorrow. I wish he’d stayed on Star Wars (his original ideas were better than what we got with Rise of Skywalker, anyway) and let Bayona direct Dominion. Even with the same script, I think it would have turned out better.

I agree with pretty much all of this. As I said earlier, I do prefer the dirtier aesthetic of the original JP sequels to the bright, expensive look of the later films, but there’s just nothing under the hood of JPIII, whereas all of the other films have something (even if it didn’t turn out well). It’s a small nothingburger. I get that’s why some people like it, and even some pseudo-intellectuals put on hipster glasses and claim “It’s the best one!” since it’s “honest” about being trash, but it doesn’t do much for me. The best scene in the movie is an unused scene from the original novel.

My problem is that they turned what originally was a family adventure/horror film into generic action flicks, and Dominion sins the most with the atrociraptors chase (name so edgy and ridiculous I thought it was another hybrid but turns out they were real), that whole scene feels like a $2 Mission Impossible rip-off, and while I like M:I, I don't want it in my dino movie. And then you have the main story focused on locusts instead of dinosaurs and the expected "dinosaurs out in the world" movie they promised us lasted 5 minutes and then they brought them to another other park. That's why I think its the worst of the six. Good thing about that movie: I had never heard of the Therizinosaurus before and that shit's cool as hell.
And sadly Rebirth looks like it's gonna be about soldiers with weapons instead of scientists trying to survive. I really hope it's good.

Fallen Kingdom has a boring as hell first half, the volcano and the lava never feels dangerous, especially after the scene where lava falls on a dino's head and it doesn't burn her. The second half has good horror moments in the mansion.

I loved JPIII as a kid because it's the first one I watched and has the coolest dinos ever (Spinosaurus and pterodactyl), but I haven't watched it in years so I can't really have an honest cinephile adult opinion on it lmao

Jurassic World is fine when you ignore the fact that it's just a 2 hour long Samsung and Mercedes commercial.

Nope, not dangerous at all, it just destroyed an entire island killing hundreds of dinos and other animals living there. No big deal.

Where did you preorder from? I preordered both from Amazon BUT only the JP steel has been shipped since Saturday. The JW steel hasn’t moved at all or even a pending charge yet. I might have to cancel JW and get it from Walmart instead

Nah. It’s unfortunate Trevorrow was allowed to fall back on Jurassic, but like I said for JPIII: say what you will about Rise of Skywalker, at least it looks like a movie.

I just did an order with Walmart just in case. My Amazon order hasn’t moved but it still says “Arriving Tomorrow”..so if the order actually ships, I’ll cancel the Walmart order.

Whatever you may think of his Jurassic World films, Trevorrow deserves a lifetime pass for The Book of Henry. One of the most bizarre films to come out of Hollywood in recent years.

I ordered from Gruv only yesterday and it shipped today. Everything I've ordered from Gruv has been in pristine condition. Amazon is so wonky in so many ways that I think I'm going to start using them as just a last resort after eBay, Gruv, Orbit, Diabolik, Bullmoose etc. I never have issues from those places. Amazon is always 50/50 it'll be a disaster someway somehow....if they even ship your item in a reasonable amount of time in the first place. Pre-ordering from Amazon has become a joke..

Yeah but then you have Chris Pratt one inch away from the lava and the biggest threat in that scene is some triceratops drooling on him, and then everything feels so rushed, like you haven't even finished your popcorn when the volcano already exploded. Maybe if it was the climax of the movie instead of the beginning it would've felt more intense.
But i gotta say that oner with the gyro sphere falling in the ocean is awesome, the threat of drowning there is more intense.
