For the first time in quite a few sales, everything I wanted for the first round was available right away:

Will place another order before the end of July, hopefully I won't have much trouble with my picks then either.

Price matching is all very good...but even not being a premium member, I still get stamps toward another order and 1.5% back through Rakuten.

Placed an order last night for:

8 1/2
Brazil
Drugstore Cowboy
The Grifters
How to Get Ahead in Advertising
Jean de Florette/Manon of the Spring: Two Films by Claude Berri
Lost Highway
Withnail & I

and will have them in my hands after work today! With my current stamps, I'm looking at $15 to use by the end of the month...

I only picked up 2 Criterion 4Ks

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
&
Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould

I really wanted Basquiat but I was not giving Criterion a penny for that half a$$ed excuse for a release. Judgement/creative calls on that release were horribly mis calculated. Even giving them less money during a sale doesn’t make it okay.

I'm out of the loop. What happened with the release?

Anyone have a recommendation for the best David Lynch film to get as a blind buy for someone new to his work? I have the Twin Peaks set but haven’t started it yet, and his filmography is a blind spot for me.

They did a 4K of the film in Black & White and the original theatrical color version of the film was basically a bonus feature on the Blu-Ray and from what I’ve read it doesn’t look very good.

If you are fine with having only the Black & White version I guess it’s fine but not doing a 4K transfer for the original theatrical color version was a bad call.

I’d bet even the director will regret that as time passes. I seriously doubt it will get another release.

I recommend The Elephant Man, although my first brush with him was Blue Velvet. Luckily, I was instantly hooked.

It depends on what sort of movie you want to watch.

Mulholland Drive is a masterpiece, and would probably be my recommendation, but you may not want to start off with something that weird and surreal.

The Elephant Man, as someone else recommended, is a much more "normal" film, but I don't know that it's really representative of Lynch's work as a whole.

Blue Velvet falls somewhere in the middle.

My recommendation would be Mulholland Drive or Blue Velvet.

Yep and if they put B&N out of business, there will be no 50% off sale.

Is "The Big Heat" out already? That was one of my picks too; but I figured I'd have to wait until later in the sale and get it along with "Carnal Knowledge."

It comes out next week. Pre-orders qualify as long as they have a release date during the sale.

Didn't Scream Factory just do the same thing with their Night of the Creeps 4K? The theatrical cut wasn't in 4K or vice versa, something like that. Strange either way. Shame about that.

This was my first David Lynch film. I saw it in the theater when it first came out.
It is one of my favorite films and my favorite Lynch film. It is weird, but David Lynch was weird...
