Mafia: The Old Country

I read the game is an adventure, and IGN said it's not open world, but takes place in the "city" of Sicily, Italy, which is the lower island the boot of Italy is kicking as they say.

Early 1900 Sicily still has a town setting, so it's not entirely wilderness. But I liked the wilderness presented in Mafia Remake and the other games including Mafia 3.

It looks like it's story driven and no side quest nonsense, which is good. I don't need lots of mini side quests to enjoy a game. Unless it offers some nice rewards, I rarely complete most of the side quests in most games (unless it was Fallout 3).

While I didn't hate Mafia 3, I think the story parts were pretty good, I'd be very happy if Old Country is more like 1 & 2 (where the world is more a backdrop for the story instead of a mess of repetitive side content). LA Noire is sorta like that too, I spose, and that's one of my favorite games.

I am in agreement that games are fine without all of the side missions, as I honestly don't play much of them and rather just have a main story and I'll create my own side mission fun in the free roam. Usually testing out the world or city to see how it operates/reacts to the player.

Thanks for the links to the pre-orders. I kept typing in Mafia Old Country and it kept bringing up everything but the game. I see the game is called Mafia: THE Old Country. I'll say the search engine on the stores need improvement to not have been able to find my search words. Best Buy found it right away without anything exact. Amazon, no luck with their poor search results. The link found it though.

Mafia Definitive Edition had Free Ride. I'm just hoping this one has something similar.

Mafia II was the one where it didn't have Free Roam but you can explore during certain missions.

I see. That's true, Free Ride was a separate mode. So no need to be started inside of a mission or to select a mission to get access to the open map. I hope so too for a mode like that.

You can't use the short/mobile link (youtu.be) if you want the video to play in your post. It helps to open the link in a browser then copy the full link from there.

The game looks good and the car driving is really nice to see as I thought maybe only horses in this game. The landscape is nice, but I hope I can jump over some of those fences.

In these Mafia games, there are usually some missions that let you just wander around. Like missions where you have to go from point A to B. During those, where there is no timer and it's just a meeting, I free roam as much as I want. That's if there isn't a formal free roam mode.
