I noticed that, but to me that didn't qualify as an "item" as I was looking for product, plus I'd also seen that before. Which led me to think it was the wi-fi 6E device which I wasn't familiar with and I had to lookup so that was the out of the ordinary "item" to me.

They are actually on Wi-Fi 7 now, this is a budget-based board so it has the older 6e type.

As for the rear connectors it is the first I have seen as it also requires a case that is compatible as it needs the cutouts for access. I am a neat freak when it comes to builds so this one should be a cake walk..

I read about them a couple of years ago when I was looking to get an Asus or MSI board, and around the same time saw the announcement on the MSI Project Zero from MSI. Gigabyte was on board as well under a similar "Project" name that I forget exactly what it was called. I ditched the MB idea and never actually looked to see what was available as I ended up sticking with my board being that MSI/AMD said they still had plans to continue supporting the relative chipset (B450) and socket AM4, which I believe a few new AM4 CPUs are being released anytime now if they haven't already. I figured rear connectors would be mainstream by now. And I agree, I prefer to keep it clean, but in the end my laziness far outweighs swapping out a board and hiding cables vs just dropping in a CPU.

And yeah, I noticed the case looked wider and figured it was to support the rear connectors.

Wifi7 just came out in February, basically. So... almost all motherboards are still sportin' WIFI 6e.
Newer mid-range, or higher tier motherboards coming out this year will most likely start incorporating WIFI7.
For now, though, it's buggy, and many WIFI7 chips only work on Intel CPUs. Also, Win10 doesn't officially support it, and Win11 will officially release drivers as the standard later this year in an upcoming update release (24H3, if I remember correctly).

I got the Asus ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2024)

Specs:

18" 240Hz Mini LED display at 2560x1600

Windows 11 Pro

1TB NVMe M.2 SSD - added a second SSD, a 2TB WD_Black SN850X M.2

32GB DDR5/5600

Intel Core i9 14900HX CPU

GeForce RTX 4080 12GB

Took out the stock WIFI6e M.2, swapped it out with the Intel B1750X (BE200) Killer series WIFI7 w/Bluetooth 5.4

I might clone the 1TB drive and put in another 2TB, but not sure if it's needed yet. I will have to see how much the 2TB drive fills up after I use it for a while.

I really like the display on this thing.

Only tested out "Horizon: Forbidden West" for a few minutes, and it runs pretty well.

Thanks! I’m not a fan of the Funko stuff and I can say I don’t own a single one I am however a huge Halloween and horror fan so this was the obvious path for me. Not sure I’ll do another themed one when I upgrade in the future but it was fun with this build

I also settled on a 4070 Super recently coming from a GTX 970. Having a blast with it so far.

I've gone from a GTX 970 to a Sapphire 9070XT, just the thing to play Plants Vs Zombies.

Nice, that is like a decade jump in tech right there.

I am currently still operating with a GTX 980 card in my work cad setup, but just built a new rig last week for my work setup. GPU market is back to being crap again, the new 5070 card I bought cost almost as much as all the other parts combined.

I am both disappointed and happy about the Sapphire Nitro 9070 XT. The RE2 remake looks great in 21:9 5K at a nearly constant 120 fps with settings almost maxed but ray tracing off. (Although, I don't actually have the desire to play it again. I play old games almost exclusively.) A test in the game Control went from upscaled 3440x1440 at around 80 fps on the old Sapphire Pulse 6800 to 120 fps after putting in the new card.

But one big reason I wanted a new graphics card is because I needed a second HDMI output, one for the TV and one for the monitor. When I try to use both HDMI outputs at 4K and 5K 120 Hz, the second channel detected is limited to 75 Hz or below with compressed colors, YCbCr 4:2:0. I uninstalled the video driver with DDU in Safe Mode, but the issue persists. Either HDMI can deliver the speed advertised, but not both at once. Which makes me think that the bandwidth is shared between HDMI outputs. Sapphire must have expected my scenario, considering how long monitor makers took to include DisplayPort 2.0 and the fact that TVs only have HDMI, but wanted to save a few pennies. I wonder if Asus does the same thing with their cards that have dual HDMI outputs.

No one tests this in reviews. It's all benchmarks, benchmarks, benchmarks.

I gave up and connected the monitor with DisplayPort 1.4. The AMD control panel now shows 10-bit full RGB 4:4:4 for both displays, but the monitor is achieving that with Display Stream Compression (DSC). Instead of "VRR," the AMD control panel now gives me the option for an alternative called "Adaptive Sync." The colors still look great. I doubt I could tell the difference between DSC and HDMI 2.1. I can't tell yet if some games are taking longer to Alt+Tab or take out of fullscreen, a common complaint with DSC. One movie might have taken a little longer to bring into fullscreen, but I'm not sure.

Inserting the card was so hard. I finally wedged it against the hard drive cage. Next time I will pull out the hard drive rack from the back and bring the card in like a car backing up for parallel parking.

Do you get any color banding w/ DSC?

I don't think so. But the colors are too bright after exiting HDR with DSC DisplayPort, forcing me to restart the computer.

It's not the end of the world. My Sony A80K has far better HDR than this Dell U4025QW. I'm just not using the TV for gaming right now because I can't set up my special rolling desk here. Too many games require aiming and moving at the same time, and I don't like doing so with my thumbs.

The sound from the speaker system cut out several times when I tested the RE4 remake a few days ago, reminding me how crappy eARC is after my monitor had been using my old graphics card's only HDMI output for four months. I plan to use the second HDMI output as a fake 800x600 display that will send sound directly to the AVR. I did that before upgrading to HDMI 2.1 three years ago. Back then I used a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter for the actual picture. You can't see the display and have to be careful not to move your mouse or any windows/programs into it. It's absurd that AMD and Nvidia haven't come up with an audio-only HDMI stream.
