I love that one, too.

You know which early one I'm a huge fan of? The Farmer's Wife.

Kino's Blackmail release is in the wrong AR, for what it's worth.

The new 4K remasters of Blackmail on the SC set are a revelation. The 2K of the silent looked great already, but both would be worthy of a 4K UHD.

To be clear, the silent version of Blackmail is fine on the Kino disc, it's the talkie version that's messed up.

Not only that, but they actually included a second disc, with a completely different second messed up version of the talkie version.

Super strange.

One is stretched, one is pinched. Neither one is accurate.

The StudioCanal set fixes this.

If anyone is both in LA and have an open afternoon this Saturday there is a double feature of The 39 Steps and The Lady Vanishes at the historic 1927 United Artists Theater downtown. Theater was opened by Charlie Chaplin, D.W. Griffith, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks.

Sounds like AI faking to be Hitchcock, saying sentences he probably never said (maybe except for 'when I was but a boy' part. it still sounds like AI, but phrasing he would use).
.. I could be wrong offcourse. but there's something about the delivery and artifacting that feels very AI-ish to me.

It looks like Universal is putting all the unsold inventory into a bright
new box. A complete set of the Universal Hitchcocks, plus one from
MGM.

Warners, technically. MGM hasn't controlled NxNW since the 1980s.

Might be interested in getting this boxset as it would save me getting the individual Blu-ray releases. Hoping it might be made available from Moviezyng as well.

There's been 16 Hitchcock movies released in 4K. This has 15 movies, so it's missing one. It's missing "To Catch A Thief". I'm not sure why they couldn't have included that in the boxset, so then we could have had ALL of the Hitchcock movies that have been released in 4K all in one package.

True, but they included it in this UHD mini-set last year:

And Universal has included it in other sets on almost every format, in the US and overseas.

They could easily have licensed it again for this set...

Easily is debatable. We don't really know what Universal had to pay or trade to Paramount to get TCAT in that set. Historically, Warner and Universal have played much nicer together when it comes to the leasing films for the other studio's boxset than Paramount have.

That set is selling for $126 for six titles.

The new Ultimate Collection 4K is selling for $125 for 15 titles.

It would seem that there's a lot less margin available in the 15 title set to pay Paramount for TO CATCH A THIEF.

Paramount may have been willing to give up a potential 5,500 sales in that smaller fancy edition--and they may have been getting paid the same actual profit on those disks as if they sold those themselves--but not willing to do that again. Paramount may simply have decided to keep one of their premiere titles all to themselves.

Interestingly with only 5,500 copies available in that Iconic Film Collection still hasn't sold out. My guess is that most Hitchcock fans already have most of the 4K titles they want individually and/or from Universal's previous three 4K "Classics Collections". There may not be a whole lot of sales of this box either, so perhaps Universal didn't offer Paramount very much to include TO CATCH A THIEF.
