Still the best way to play Silent Hill 2. And this reminds me I still need to do the extra scenarios on SH2 Enhanced.

After upgrading my PC last week I finally got around to testing this out and I must say it was fairly transformative. The biggest factor was being able to play in ultrawide, which really opens up the environments. It looks outstanding maxed out at 60+ fps. What really surprised me is that it seems to have one of the best implementations of frame generation that I've experienced. I only tried it briefly but I didn't notice any artifacts or tearing, which I often see when I test out frame gen. I usually don't use it but I will definitely see if it holds up in SH2. I remember walking through the forest at the opening on PS5 and it seemed to be dropping to 30fps at times. It was fairly jaw-dropping to get through that area at a steady 120fps. I was going to replay this fully once I complete Doom Dark Ages but I might just make this the priority now.

PC has more freedom with graphics than a 2020 PS5, but that's good to hear it shines on PC.
I will try to complete this game this summer. I need to dive in to the horrors of Silent Hill 2 but free time is limited.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is reportedly getting DLC based on the Born from a Wish content from re-releases of the original game. Silent Hill 2 Remake was a big hit last year and helped resurrect the series after over a decade of no new games in the series. The Silent Hill series was a foundational franchise for the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 era, but it fell off after that as Konami struggled to keep the momentum going. Silent Hill was staging a comeback with Hideo Kojima at the helm, but unfortunately, the project fell apart and the series went on ice for about a decade.

I'm guessing you're not playing in 4k? and have Ray Tracing off?

this game is very demanding on my end, even dropping DLSS to balanced doesn't give me 60fps (hovers between 50-60fps) in the opening area

with RT off, I can get 80fps or so, so I'll probably keep it off, instead of lowering other graphics settings down

I was playing in 4K with raytracing (and DLSS), though I didn't get the same level of performance through most of the game that I got in the opening section. The game generally stayed in the 60-80fps range. But the more I played the more I also noticed UE5's penchant for stuttering, which was unfortunate. Overall it felt like a significant boost compared to the PS5 version but it also reinforced my belief that UE5 is a blight on modern gaming.

Next time I play I will probably turn off RT and see how that goes. With a lot of modern games that already look good without it, I often find that I don't even notice much of a different whether it is off or on. For instance, I just tried Doom Dark Ages following the new path-tracing update and the only real difference I noticed was the massive performance hit.

Locked the fps to 60fps which helped with the stuttering
Turned off RT
Everything max except for Shadow set to medium
DLSS Quality

Just finished the apartments section, the game is very smooth with these settings on my hardware, but still there are some rare drops.

When the performance is a hit and a miss on consoles, Steam Deck and High End Pcs, maybe the engine is the problem

Just finished this, took around 15 hours. about 2x the length of the original

anyway, great game/remake, pacing does take an obvious hit, but still had a blast with this version, and the original is always there for me when I want the OG experience

can't wait for the SH1 remake

If I've never played the first game... can i still get into/ enjoy this?

Sorry if this is a daft question but why didn't they remake the first game first? or did they do that and i just missed it.

Yup, should be fine. SH2 is independent of SH1. You'd get more background on the town having played 1 but nothing that's crucial.

Probably an architecture thing. SH1 has never been off PS1 whereas 2 was a generation later, had several "HD" releases as well as being on PC.

I've never played the first one. I did feel the whole time like I was missing something, however it does seem a lot of the mystery in this game is just intentional. Not sure how much the first game would have helped.

Glad to see the disc Silent Hill 2 remake is finally 29.99. I got it during Thanksgiving week 2024 for 29.99 on a very limited rare sale, and then it went back up in price 69.99 for a good while there after.

Return to Silent Hill (the 3rd live action movie), is being released in theaters January 2026. Another 6 months almost.

Bloober team must be already getting rolling on Silent Hill 1 remake. Can't wait for that one.

Cool. The game looks really nice for the details, and controls well. Just wish there was more interaction with the objects, as so much is glued down in place. Imagine accidentally bumping into some crates that fell over and alerting the nearby monsters. But that's not possible and they lost that tension that could've been built just from exploring.
