I'm sure there'll be a workaround in place well before December.
I'm also sure it'll involve not only passing all the costs onto the consumer, but throwing in a little bit extra just for everyone else's troubles. It's not going to be a good result for the USA, but what lately is? |

You can still ship items under $100 as an individual to the US. I sold a blu-ray on eBay, but it wouldn't let me buy and print a shipping label through them as usual. I had to go down to the post office and fill out their usual shipping slip and mark it as a gift and the value etc. I'm also guessing this only works for small items.
Not that this helps Umbrella too much as they are a Business and would need to declare shipping etc for tax purposes. Plus they use also use hefty packaging. But there is a workaround for anything smaller under $100 if you know someone who will dropship it I guess. |

Good to know. Don’t want any surprises at customs if it’s held hostage until I pay the tariffs. I was looking to place a large order so I could get the Caligula set. Could be months before I receive my order so I’m holding off for now.

If they take too long to figure it out, people who have placed orders with these companies from the US will cancel, and others won't place orders at all. I'm not sure how much difference the decrease of US orders would make to Umbrella, but I'm pretty sure it's a good business model to try and sell as many copies as possible to as many people as possible. From their e-mail, I'm not sure if Umbrella even knows that such things as CDs and DVDs are not subject to tariffs. It's still a problem, though, since the mail is paused while the powers-that-be try and figure out how to deal with items that ARE. In the meantime, I think Umbrella is simply telling people that they have the option to upgrade to a different shipping method that by-passes the bureaucratic log-jam. |

Like was said, Umbrella is using the more expensive DHL option to cover bases right now - I would assume with the HOPE that by Sept. 20, these movies won't be tariffed anyway. (that was when Imprint expected to know something, so approx that date anyway, when shipments can resume)
Obviously, Umbrella is aware that by prior treaty, movies should be exempt - but there is no reason to assume the US would abide by that treaty or that customs wouldn't apply a tariff anyway. So Umbrella is just not mentioning that at all until they have solid guidance. So like was said, IF you want something right away, then DHL is the option. The "good" news is for future pre-orders like Freaked, etc. by the time they get released, this SHOULD have resolved. Not in a good way, but we'll at least know what we're dealing with. |

I had posted this in another thread, but allow me to repeat it.
--- Attempting to confirm that blu-rays are considered recorded media, I asked AI, which responded: Quote:

It's not really up for debate; the law clearly includes entertainment media like films as "informational materials", without room for narrow interpretations. Comparably, the US postal service offers Media Mail (once known as Book Rate) discounted shipping for CDs, DVDs, and similar media. Both policies prioritize affordable access to informational and cultural resources, including artistic content.

Well, okay. You believe your dog if that's what you want to believe.
Certainly AI isn't fallible, but in this case it contains the reference numbers of the documents that it's used to provide the answer. You can verify the various statements yourself in those documents if you think they're making it all up. Some people act like they WANT there to be tariffs on these things, just so they can have something to be upset about. |
