That would open the way to the US or UK distributor to do the same.
Might not have the FiM encode though, but in this instance that is more important than perfect encode.
Are there mistakes on the international version? I know the German version has one/some.

I haven't been following this thread, so what is this referring to? And it affects both cuts of the film?

The most egregious is not just any fade, it's messing up perhaps the most striking scene of the movie that traumatized generations of kids.

The scene where the dad puts a raw egg in orange juice?

It’s an interesting alternative version. It doesn’t have any of the Moroder music (and therefore no Limahl), has a different voice for Teeny Weeny, some scenes are different/extended/missing. I got the German release when that was the only way to get the film in 4K, and thoroughly enjoyed that cut, but once I get the international cut I can’t imagine going back to it, and I certainly wouldn’t mind just having it in blu-ray quality as it is just a curiosity for me.

The US/international cut has some nice close-up shots of the odd-looking characters at the Ivory Tower. You get a much better look at them than you do in the German cut. The US cut also shows a shot of the Auryin in the ocean before Falkor dives in to get it. Gmork’s voice sounds way more menacing in the US cut. And Teeny Weenie has a strong Southern US accent in the German cut that doesn’t fit his character at all IMO.

There’s also some light-hearted ethereal music that accompanies the Rock Biter and other characters in the forest in the US cut. The German cut has no music in this scene. The music in the Artax swamp scene is sadder in the US cut, which I think fits better. Some of the scenes in the German cut go on for too long IMO, like Atreyu riding Falkor. The US cut is paced better.

How does the German version compare to the international version? I know nothing about the German version.

Same here. Is it the same hard cut instead of a fade in the swamps of sadness sequence (the error on the German version)?

I agree with other members that the version you grew up with will be the one you prefer. In my case, it is the international version. The German version is more of a curiosity that I'm glad I saw once but would not be my go-to version of the film for future viewings.

This video does a masterful job of comparing both versions for those curious.
