If you think about it as well the setting around Bruce himself, the batcave, the penthouse, etc are pushed a bit further from reality as well. Gothham has some very realistic elements to it but so elements which are clearly "more" than that. I actually think the first film already has a bit of a horror element to it, Riddler being almost a slasher character, albeit a smarter one than typical of the genre. I mean its no secret horror works with Batman, the Burton films obviously played it up with the general atmosphere but Batman a detective also works very nicely within. |

I mean, the whole point of The Batman was that he was leaning too much into the persona and letting it overtake him and his judgement; he led with vengeance over any other thought/feeling. I have no doubt that, since he learned what the true purpose of Batman is in the eyes of the public, he'll start to lean a bit more off that and into the lighter side of things with Bruce. Kinda like with the church in part 1, there'll be something he'll have an easier time doing as Bruce, and we'll get that growth there.
Regarding Gunn's feelings on this movie- I mean, if he really wanted to can it, wouldn't be have just done so by now? Same if he wanted to try and work it into his DCU- we know he's more than willing to explain how so-and-so got to this new universe. But he clearly made the "elseworld" comment knowing that fans would inevitably ask where it fits in. He supposedly canned a couple other movies in development, so if he really wanted to, he could've canned part II as well, but I think he knows that would be an idiotic move, given the glowing reception of part I. Also, do we know for sure that Reeves' first draft had Clayface in it? I remember the rumors, of course, but they were never confirmed, and at this point, it seems like it may have just gotten mixed up with the Clayface solo movie. To my knowledge, Reeves has never explicitly stated who the villain was going to be; on the contrary, he's quite expertly avoided giving a concrete answer to anyone. |

The detective parts of The Batman worked wonderfully. The detective part of TDK I found odd and confusing. The scene where they reconstruct the bullet went a little over my head. In The Batman, the clues and the solution were much easier to follow, so it made it more satisfying when Batman worked the clues out. More of that, please, in the sequel.

Maybe this version of Bruce Wayne isn't worried about how others perceive him when he appears at the funeral or Falcone's lounge club. He seems angry or frustrated to them, but as long as they don't suspect he's Batman, not much else matters IMO. His riches, we don't really see how they're being spent to help others as his character often would do. The movie mostly stays focused on his father Tom Wayne, and how corruption seeped its way in to destroy the foundation billion dollar program he set up for orphans. The mob took it over and little of the money ever went to help the orphans, according to Riddler. Quote:

On September 20, 2024 Matt Reeves confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the script was completed:
https://ew.com/matt-reeves-the-batma...lusive-8714200 And then you can even see the editors note that on December 19 2024 James Gunn that the script wasn't done despite what Reeves said before: Quote:
Gunn in the recent Rolling Stone interview: ![]() Clearly he was making a dig at Reeves. He can't just cancel the movie because the first film was a success but he's going to make the experience unbearable until Matt Reeves gets sick of it and leaves. |

Across the Spider-Verse is my favourite CBM of all time so Beyond is far and away my most anticipated movie of 2027.
Second is a toss-up between The Batman II and Secret Wars. At the moment, for me, Secret Wars is number 2 on my list, but if Doomsday sucks, then The Batman II will move to second in my list. My hype for The Batman II is super high because I absolutely loved The Batman, except that awful deleted Joker scene (but it's a deleted scene, so not canon). Man of Tomorrow is a hard fourth place on my list. I didn't hate Superman 2025, but I didn't exactly love it either. |

No offence to Gunn, but I think The Batman is better than every movie Gunn has ever made (and I love the first two Guardians movies). So for me, Reeves is a far better writer. I also loved Let Me In, which is a solid remake of Let the Right One In.
