True. I have that set, but would have double dipped for the films not included in the Universal box.

Wow! this is crazy.
Hope this does well enough for them to continue it for other actors.
4K actor boxsets sound like a dream.

Except that the VS thread is 50% people imagining that the upcoming announcement is the movie they've wanted more than anything else ever, and then being disappointed when it isn't. (The other 50% is shipping discussion.)

I may have missed this - is ILSA going to get a standard Blu-ray release as well as a 4k release?

Wow. Death Wish & Ninja films reached triple and quad Blu dip levels.

Everything I hate about the media selling business.

Focus on films that have never seen a Blu release or dvd release.

Sad to say, we are in an era where most of the physical media consumers are good with every film that has already been released in the past getting the deluxe 4k treatment priority, rather than MIA-to-HD content. First (only?) priority: everything goes 4k. I spend so much less on physical media now, that I barely even care much about it anymore. My addiction is the films themselves, not the quest for the ultimate format upgrade. Soon, all that will be left are the fine detail enthusiasts, while actual film buffs will find better things to do with their mad money. Over the remaining time left for physical media, I expect little more than upgrades and deluxe steelbook editions. (sigh) I feel cancelled. Was fun while it lasted.

The good news is that Kino-Lorber has issued a decent number of films from the 1950s, '60s and '70s via their Universal and Paramount deals over the past several years that hadn't been released to homevideo before.

It's not a total bit of "re-release everything" thankfully.

I don't do a lot of 'double-dipping'; once in a while I will but that's it.

As an example, I would double-dip if Kino releases BANNING (1967), which IMPRINT Films/ViaVision from Australia released on a region-free BD last August. I'd gladly support Kino if they issue BANNING.

On the other hand, you spoke of DEATH WISH (1974). Out of 6800 VHS tapes in my collection (they're everywhere), 50 BD's and 265 DVDs/DVD-R's I've only 1 copy of DEATH WISH. It's a 1979 FOTOMAT DRIVE-THRU MOVIES release on VHS. That's the most collectible release of "Death Wish" I've run across and I'm fortunate to have it. The tape ~does~ play without the copyguard 'rolling picture' problem and I am thankful.

I still might double-dip on DEATH WISH, but it would be a 1980-release Paramount VHS tape I'd be after. It seems FOTOMAT released it a short time before PARAMOUNT did and over the years I've thought about complementing the 'Mat with an aging Paramount video to keep it company. I have zero plans to buy a later-release VHS of "Death Wish" or a disc. I like the old tape(s) of "Death Wish" and that's all I need.

----------------

I believe the Kino's current deal with Paramount is expiring soon and it is unknown at present if or when there will be another Paramount deal in the near future as the company is being acquired by Skydance Media (think that's the name?).

However, KINO-LORBER looks to have re-upped with Universal for more titles and I sincerely hope at least one Universal Pictures release is a '60s catalog title never-before on homevideo. (With the notable exception of "Heironymous Merkin" which I will not buy because it's a dreadful waste of talent and film).

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I never look at 4K releases as "double-dips" the same way I didn't look at a Blu-ray as a double-dip of a DVD, or a DVD a double-dip of a VHS, and so forth. I mean, should companies just not release 4K titles? Should 4K titles only be those that never got Blu-ray releases? It's a nonsensical stance to take.

Each successive format update is the equivalent of starting over. It's simply not the same as what came before. I treat each 4K announcement as an opportunity to experience a film as if it were the first time.

Any more info on the Death Wish collection please? I’ve held off buying any of the DW movies on blu-ray because there are so many different releases and I can’t keep track of which ones are the best to get.

So secretly hoping this collection is it.

It's up for pre-order at Kino. Death Wish 2 is the only new acquisition for Kino here, and will get a new commentary track. Part 2 will be getting a separate release as well, so you could essentially get them all individually from Kino too if you want. The first and third being available in 4K from them too.

I could care less if companies release movies in '4k'. I'm not going any further than the standard Blu-ray. Everyone has their own 'bag' and mine stops at the standard Blu-ray disc.

EDIT: Maybe the proper grammatical form is "I could not care less". Hmm . . .

We plan to release it on 4K next year.

Right now, we needed it for this set.
