Default No Transformers

I wish we could buy Transformers on Blu, but o well. I won't be buying or renting the DVD (cause I don't like DVD's anymore ) and I will not buy the HD-DVD or an HD-DVD player (till Sony starts making HD-DVD players, which is like never) so I'll just wait for Paramount to go Blu again.

Is there really any competition?

Regardless of the merits of the films, not only are the Blu-ray movies bigger box office hits combined, Blu-ray has always sold 2-1+ more copies of any movie that was dual format.

If Transformers sold 100k, Spiderman 3 would sell 200k-250k on Blu-ray.

Yup shitty blu ray line-up for oct 16th....something good better be announced or we are losing that week

No one in the industry will care one bit about losing a single week, so long as they win Q4 70-30.

As mentioned previously, there are a lot more BD players out there than HD-DVD players, and I doubt that many people are going to dropping $400 on a new hd-dvd player so that they can see Transformers in high def.

I actually think Paramount is going to be hurting this holiday season, because the pissed off BD owners are probably not going to buy the HD-DVD or DVD versions of their newest films out of protest.

Also, even though some people didn't love Spidy 3, the 1-3 box set is more than enough of an incentive for me to preorder it.
YEP... the spidey box set will rock... Spidey 3 by itself: not so hot... but all 3 will sell well

There really isnt any competition in terms of quality. Both Pirates 3 and Spidey 3 were horrible films imo and Transformers and Bourne Ultimatum were my #1 and #2 movies of the year. Sure Spidey 3 and Pirates 3 will sell more but I dont buy into a format so I can get the films that sold the most. I got into HD so I could get my favorite films in HD and they are definitly on HD DVD this year. The fact that you guys are more concerned with sales then you are for the actual quality of the films being released is somewhat confusing.

Regardless of the merits of the films? The merits of the films and the quality of the films is the most important part of buying films.

Merit means Jack sh*t, it's about box office pull and total sales in this particular debate.

I won't be buying Spiderman or POTC, but they're still bigger pulls than Transformers and Bourne to the general public.

There are 15 Blu-ray pre-orders that are must have's for me, 3-4 on HD-DVD, certainly not enough to justify a new player at this turbulent time.

I will personally avoid POTC 3. Spiderman 3 maybe. For me, Spider-man and Spider-man 2 (mainly #2) will crush Trannyformers and Bourne.

Spiderman 3 needs to be trimmed down to no more than 2 hours, and it will be a much better movie. Too much pointless character developement. That scene of Peter Parker dancing in the bar has GOT TO GO. Trim that crapola of him dressing as a bad boy and strutting. I hope for a directors cut.

Sure, character development of Venom was weak, but I waited my whole life for Sandman and Spidey on the big screen. It was a hit with me in that sense. I can't wait to see them all on blu-ray.

Merit means jack sh*t? Ok man whatever floats your boat. You have fun jumping up and down over the sales numbers of terrible films. I am sorry but BD has some great titles coming this holiday season inlcuding Spidey 1 & 2 but these 2 films were horrible period and I wouldnt even waste a blank DVD and a download on either of them. When I purchase films it is 100% about the merit and how much I enjoyed the film and has absolutly ZERO to do with how many copies its going to sell or how many copies it has already sold. Sure BD is going to beat HD DVD in sales this season because it has 5 times as many players in the market right now but in terms of quality films, HD DVD is by far the better format this holiday season.

Couldt agree more. I am actually waiting for a good fan edit of this film and it might actually be worth watching. Those scenes of Peter were so bad that I was actually embarassed for him while i was watching it. Me and my girlfreind just looked over at each other and started laughing at how horrible it was. They also have to get rid of the scene on the bridge where Mary Jane tells him she is seeing someone else and he like totally breaks down. It might be the worst crying scene I have ever seen in my life. Botom line is the movie had some great scenes but it also had some absolutly horrid scenes and ultimately those horrible scenes ruined the entire film.

I also think the entire Venom storyline was totally wasted. That could have been one of Spidermans most interesting enemies to put on the big screen and they totally ruined it. IMO he shouldnt have even been in this film and they should have just concentrated on Goblin Jr and Sandman. In the end it was Venom who suffered the most in this script and he was alays my favorite villain in the comic books. What a waste.

But this discussion is about sales, personally I'd only buy Bourne.

Titles like Halloween, 28 Days Later, Superbad, Die Hard and Dawn of the Dead appeal to me.

The HD-DVD line-up isn't appealing enough to spend $200 on a player.

Lamest post of the day.

No one cares what you are going to buy. They are talking about the overall format war and therefore about what will sell the most.

See personally I think Blu wins hands down. I also think Transformers will sell more than a few HD-DUD players as well though. It's a huge title in the HD world for it's special effects. I'll be grabbing the SD-DVD just because I liked it a lot and truth be told I picked up a PS3 in anticipation of viewing Transformers on Blu. I don't regret my decision one bit because of all the great titles coming out this year. I really like the third Pirates movie. You have to respect the kick to the nuts ending that was such a non-Disney ending. Spidey 3 was o.k. but I'm picking up the box set just to get them all anyway. Then there's Die Hard as well...nuff said. I think Blu has more of the mass market blockbusters and let's face it those are the titles that will sell players. It's not always about what's better but what's more popular. Plus this is going to be a very cutthroat sales quarter and we could see some surprise catalog titles from Disney, Fox, and Sony just to seal HD-DUD's fate for 2008.

Personally, I think the match up would have been better if you said Spidey 3 and Live Free or Die Hard vs. Transformers and Bourne 3.

The Pirates 3 has made almost 3 times the money Bourne 3 made.

In terms of HD sales, I think you could have Spidey 3 and Meet the Robinsons and still outsell Transformers and Bourne 3 (of course, I'm talking first week sales...otherwise you probably just need Spidey 3 and maybe Underworld).

Wow, imagine the deleted scenes we will see in the blu-ray extra's. Some of that bridge scene could be salvaged. With the proper cuts, it could tell a different story. I'm still going to be in awe when I see them on blu-ray. and hope that awe will mask some of the crapola of Spidey 3.
