And since you're an LA fan, I can't help but remind you of the NL record holder, Fernando "The Big Bopper" Tatis, who hit 2 grand slams in the same inning, against the Trolley Dodgers a few years ago. Edit: Just noticed the Tatis thing was 10 years ago already. I feel old. Last edited by toef; 10-04-2009 at 10:47 PM. |

Take the whole AL and NL... in each, top 4 make the playoffs... so it would be close anyway but the Rangers should be in there. Last edited by hc666; 10-05-2009 at 02:38 PM. |

It's the same way in the NFL. The Patriots go 11-5 last year and don't make the playoffs, the Chargers go 8-8 and get a home game. That's just the way sports are. They want to make divisions meaningful and that might mean an inferior team making it over a more worthwhile team. That isn't go to change either.

World Series: 2 teams Championship Series: 4 teams Division Series: 8 teams Without adding ANOTHER round I'm not sure how they could do this without lengthening the season way too long, perhaps start the play-offs in September or at least the division (or new conference series) series earlier. Hmm. |

Well kids....I managed to get some playoff tickets for game 2...
![]() ![]() I'll try and take as many pics as I can. I'm in Section 214BS. I had no idea where that was @ first but now I know. Now...the really odd thing about this is I got the tickets for $22/pop. ![]() ![]() From what I read, I guess there's some type of price freeze from the 2004 season. It still makes no sense because the seats should be about $100 but I am not complaining one bit. It came to about $65ish(bought two) with all those gay Ticketmaster fees. I hate printed tickets they wouldn't let me do a Will Call pick-up. Sucks but at least I'll get there! If anyone wants a yearbook for the year or program, let me know and I'll try and pick some up for you! I'm sure Jelly Beans will be all over this! lol This week is going to be awesome! I'm hoping to get to the stadium around 5:30-6ish. It's going to be cold but it will be worth it! ![]() Last edited by sfmarine; 10-05-2009 at 07:35 PM. |

Ted Williams Head Mistreated?
http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/331344.../wid/22304053/ "Larry Johnson says in the book “Frozen: My Journey Into the World of Cryonics, Deception and Death” that he watched an Alcor official swing a monkey wrench at Williams’ frozen severed head to try to remove a tuna can stuck to it. The first swing accidentally struck the head, Johnson contends, and the second knocked the tuna can loose" EDIT - congrats on those playoff tickets, marine - excellent!! |

![]() I'd recommend getting there as early as you can (but no earlier than the gates actually open) so you can spend some time walking around. If you only have time for either monument park or the museum, I'd say go to MP. The museum was kind of a letdown, and it was really cramped (and musty, since a lot of people went in there to dry off from the rain... didn't smell too great). I sat in the second row in left field. I think those were $125 advance/$150 gameday tickets, but I got them for $30 or so. It was fun being close enough to exchange words with Damon between innings. And the huge padding on the seats -- while unnecessary -- was nice. The dining options at the stadium are beyond anything I've seen at any other stadium. But it's also pretty expensive. The best deal is probably the sliders (either hamburger or chicken ones). I think with fries and a drink that came to $9. Or you could buy a Lobel's steak sandwich for $15, and it comes with nothing. Might be more during the playoffs though. Anyhow, have fun. ![]() Last edited by toef; 10-05-2009 at 08:04 PM. |

Thanks for the tip....Eating @ Yankee Stadium is always costly lol. I'm going to try and get there as early as possible but I'm not sure when the gates will open. I'm still debating how to get there. I usually take the subway from Manhatten and park over in Hoboken but now that the stadium is done...there will be more parking...either way it will be almost $30 to park.
I talked with Damon during spring training. He came right over and talked with me and a few others. Really great guy all-around. I was stupid and didn't have a ball or anything for him to sign though. |

I was surprised at how quickly Damon fit in with the Yankees, and became a fan favorite, considering he came from Boston. I liked him when he was on the Royals, and hated when the Red Sox got him from Oakland. I'm hoping the Yankees at least offer him a 1-year deal for next year, but I'm not sure if he'll be willing to take a pay cut. The Yanks don't really need Damon or Matsui for their stats, so at least one of them is going to go. If the Yankees fail to win the WS, I fear that both will be let go, and the Yankees will aggressively go after Holliday. |

As far as Damon and Mats...one will definitely be gone by next season. I hope Damon stays...but the pay cut may urge him to go elsewhere. |

If you remember a couple years ago, he actually retired... sort of. In Torre's book that came out a few months ago, he mentioned how Damon came to his office during spring training and said he was quitting, and that he didn't want to play baseball anymore. I think he wanted to spend more time with his kids, and do more charity work. It was his dad who convinced him that he could still have a huge impact on peoples lives as a baseball player, and he'll have plenty of time to do other stuff once he's no longer physically able to play. So what better team to reach people from than the Yankees? Plus, I think he's grounded himself in NYC quite a bit, including the work he does with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, which is obviously in NYC. But maybe he'd like moving closer to home, although I doubt the Rays or Marlins could offer more than the Yankees. So who knows, but I'd like to see him back. At least if fans knew whether he'd be coming back or not, they could make sure he got the proper sendoff. |
