IE my sister's child support came in late because the state changed how they paid it and she ended up bouncing all the bills she had automatically taken out that month. Forget it.

However; all my other purchased items are done by my debit/credit card so I'm not completely out of it.

You can still do all of that using your bank's online payment options. I'd never use the automatic debit method with each separate service either, but using the bank's payment service for ALL of my bills is VERY convenient. When I get a bill in the mail, I just look at it and file it away. It actually helps with payment planning. I use Quicken, and I have show my pay checks coming in and download my bills going out for 30 days in advance. I can see if I need to move this bill to that pay check long before it ever comes due.
