Thanks! I have been thinking about building one for a while now and finally got down to it. It was a fun project. And it wasn't a solid 4 hours. I had to wait for pieces to dry so I did other things. Still, I'm glad I did and am looking forward to re-watching my blus to see (rather, hear and feel) the difference!

It is. When I get home tonight I'll take some candids and get them uploaded. I was leaning towards using 2" x 2" for the legs. I went with 2" x 3" (2" x 4" was overkill) because the A2-300 weighs in around 75 pounds. I felt I needed the extra stability. I stuffed it with polyfill and put the rug all around the legs so it looks more like a base / pedestal than a riser. In all, it's about 7.5 inches, but I was impressed with the difference it makes. Also, as I posted earlier, I highly recommend using liquid nails instead of regular glue. It does take longer to dry, but the liquid nails paired up with wood screws makes it super strong!

As promised. Pics of completed DIY riser in use below.

In hindsight, I wish I had stopped to take pics while I was assembling, but I had a full head of steam going ...sigh... Next time!

Note: The height of the riser is 7" (I know it doesn't look like it, but that's on account of the size of the sub and the tower next to it )

Thanks! I really enjoyed the project (my first venture of the sort). Now I just have to get the second A2-300 to justify making another!

You really should give it a shot. I'm sure you've seen enough on here to have a good foundation for what you want and how you would go about doing it. I am not a DIY kind of guy, but this thread was a HUGE inspiration and when it was all said and done, the journey was as of an enjoyment as the end result! We're 1 day from the weekend...c'mon, for $30, stop by Home Depot on your way home tomorrow night and get to it!

In a nutshell, that's how I made mine!

Trust me, you'll love your A2-300 even more.

Anytime. If it was "okay", I'd say so. Lol - but that's a Great looking Riser. Better watch it tho', you may get a call from the mfg's of the SubDude or Grampa' risers. (I have a SubDude for my Main/Front PA-120 Sub) - And you're right; it doesn't look at all like it's 7" high (?!). It looks more like 3-4". (There may be a bad joke in there somewhere, but I am NOT going there... )

I have to ask this question because going through a few hundred post would be insane. lol.

I need to prevent some or all of the bass of my sub from vibrating too much downstairs and driving my neighbors crazy. Would a riser help me with that?

I still want to hear the base but I don't need to feel it. I don't want to get thrown out of my place.

I actually feel so bad for them especially after watching Transformers 2.

By decoupling the sub from the floor, you should reduce the vibrations that they can hear. A sub riser will do this. It has other benefits as well, including improved performance, so you will still get the kind of bass response you want. For what you want, this would help to isolate the sub up off of the floor, thus reducing the vibrations your neighbors below can detect. It is also recommended that if you do this, to also place a small piece of rug under the subriser for further dampening, which should further help your situation.

Again, this will help, but to what degree depends on the apartment and the dynamics involved within it. Some floors may be so thin that little can help, so this is not technically an end all to your problem. However, it should help.

Good luck!

WOW, that's some great advice and tips. Thanks so much. I will get started on a riser either this weekend or the next.
Thanks again.

If you want to save time, read posts #1, #2, and #3. Post #1 explains how to build a riser. Posts #2 and #3 explain the theory behind risers and why they make a difference.
