Haha. I was playing Uncharted (showed up from GameFly), so I just paused it to tune in for the start of the game.

CC..is throwing a lot of balls.

I thought it was great that they let a Vet throw out the first pitch.

Going back to what I think Hi-Def Steve mentioned before, I've been wondering how much of an advantage home field advantage really is in a 2-3-2 format.

For the Phillies (or non-advantaged team), their goal is to just win one of these two games, and that's a success. And then I'm sure they'll be happy to take 2 of 3 at home. That sets up only needing to win 1 of 2 on the road again.

For the Yankees (or the advantaged team), it seems like they have to sweep the first 2 at home, and win at least 1 on the road. Anything less would be bad.

A 2-2-1-1-1 series seems like too much traveling, and ruins the flow of the series.

A 3-3-1 seems like too much of an advantage.

So maybe 2-3-2 is the best, by default.

Either way for the Red Sox, the winner of the World Series will finished tied for most WS titles in the decade.

Currently Boston is the only team with 2.

The Phillies and Yankees each have 1.

Yanks are still # 1 with most World Series

No one will ever beat that record!

What does that mean though? I bet if you were to ask every player whether they would trade traveling for home field games you would get a unanimous response of yes.

As much as I hate myself for this I think I am going to root for the Yankees. Seeing Victorino alone makes me want to.

Lee is looking very sharp. CC is not CC tonight. Maybe he had too much rest.

The Yankees need to get on base. Jeter, A-rod, Teix...they are all striking out.

I had a feeling about this! I think the Phillies overall pitching is better!

That's great and all, but I find this one of the more annoying parts of Yankees fans. I've only been alive for the last 4 WS titles, so there's no point in my bragging about the other 22 my favorite team won.

I can, however, tell you all 26 years they won, and who they beat, because when I was younger I thought it'd be cool to know.

Just in general, the idea of baseball seems like if you lose today, you go out and play tomorrow. Players are probably more superstitious than any other sport, and the idea of streaks/slumps, being hot or being rusty, etc, seems like it involves playing every day.

For whatever reason, it just seems like playing a game, then taking a day off, then playing another game, then taking a day off, isn't the way baseball is supposed to be played. But what that means, I don't know.

And they wouldn't be trading traveling for home field games. They're adding traveling for the sake of re-arranging two games.

Strange play there.

I kind of feel bad for the Yankees, because they were probably going to be doubled-up, but the umpires gave them no chance.

Rollins did a nice job faking that the ball would drop, to pull Matsui off the base. That's a given, out #1.

He then threw to first, and the call was that Cano was safe, because Howard came off the bag. Cano was out because of the pop-up, so whether he beat the throw is irrelevant. The important part is that Howard didn't touch first, which is why Cano was called safe to begin with.

So at that point, Matsui is not out yet, because nobody touched first base. Matsui asked the umpire if he was out from what he thought was a ball that touched the ground, and the umpire must've said he was out, because Matsui nodded, and then started walking off the field.

If the umpires got the call right in the first place, there's a slim chance Matsui could've gotten back to first, since Howard, at that point, still hadn't touched first.

I also like that the second base umpire had to defer to umpires who were much further away from him, to determine what really happened. If you can't see what happened 2 feet in front of you, maybe you shouldn't be an umpire.

Yanks need to do something this inning. I can't remember the last time that CC gave up 2 homers in a game.

I don't know whether to laugh or or to be annoyed with that pop up catch by Cliff Lee.

I just realized that this game is going really fast. Only 2.5 hours and it's in the 8th inning...Impressive.

Edit: figures...just as I say that..Hughes gets in a jam and walks to batters. We are in a tough spot. Looks like it could be a Game 7 series.
