The premiere was 160 min. Kubrick deleted 19 minutes before the general release. Gee, I sure would love to see that 19 minutes.

Didn't it have an prelude and intermission? Perhaps they are measuring these as well when stating a 149min run-time.

This upcoming Halloween, the venue will be at the Playboy mansion.

B.T.W.- HeavyHitter,
The color timing of the past Rockstar Halloween Party looks perfect to me apparently originating from a overly saturated broad palette.

Default 60GB or 80GB PS3?

So someone please clarify - If I'm buying the PS3 mainly for BD's and PS3 games, is the 80GB a better bet? There seems to be continuous speculation that the chipset in the 80GB model will have a better chance of doing bitstream compared to the 60GB model..

Paidgeek or any insider, any info on this? I'm looking at buying a 2nd PS3 and I don't want to buy a 60GB if the 80GB is going to be more "future proof."

Thanks

O god no. No, you don't. Really. What Kubrick cut from the premier version was footage of the second retrieval of the Discovery's communicator. So it was nothing more than a repeat of the first retrieval, with, again, only breathing sound effects. Kubrick realized that the footage added nothing, and killed what little pace the second act had. This 'new' cut is what became the final roadshow version. The 160 minute premier only played in New York (and probably L.A.), and only for about 5 days.

The 160 minute running time does includes the prelude and intermission, as does the 149 minute (final) version. Without the prelude and intermission, it's about 141 minutes.

It's eerily similar to 'The Shining', in that Kubrick changed the cut after the film had (barely) been released, and sent out instructions to all projectionists on what frames to edit out. This was, of course, the famous scene at the end between Shelley Duvall and Barry Nelson.

When/If the PS3 gets full on-board DTS HD MA decoding (which is a lot more likely than passing bitstream), it will send the full information of the lossless stream to your receiver as multi-channel PCM, you will lose nothing (same principle as with DTHD right now). Your receiver DOES NOT have to decode the advanced codecs in that scenario.

Good to hear and as someone who listened to the audio commentary on Resident Evil it will be interesting to see the PiP commentary on Resident Evil: Extinction.

There it goes -- we pass the 9pm watershed and look what happens. This thread should be renamed "Insiders Thread: Unrated Edition".

So the receiver needs to be able to process the multi-channel PCM then?

Sorry - this is all a bit confusing. What receiver would be a good pair for the PS3 in order to listen to the PCM tracks then?

Hey, i know this has been asked in the general forums, but have any of the insiders heard about a firmware update for PS3 that will have DTS-HD support? I emailed playstation back in April but they didn't really give me a great answer.

If you want to listen to next-gen multi-channel audio from your PS3, you need a receiver that accepts multi-channel PCM via HDMI in any case. Nothing has changed or will change there.

The good news is, all the major brands have plenty of receivers that fit the bill, you DO NOT need one that decodes DTHD or DTS HD MA by itself. Personally I like the way Yamaha receivers sound. Find one that fits your wallet!
