I hate this..

Facebook comments from my friends;

Quote:
All respect for Henry has now gone out the window! I seriously hope he crashes and breaks both legs and never plays football again! Actually a long agonizing death would be nicer! Fair play to the lads they've done their country proud!
Quote:
I'm shocked! ,henry u used 2 b cool.....nw u just deserve to get both ur legs broke.
Just a couple of MANY comments..

There is even a new group that has just been started "THIERRY HENRY IS A CHEATING BASTARD." and another one "We Irish hate Thierry Henry (the cheat)."

"We Irish???" Glad I dont associate myself with fruitcakes like that

I think the football fans here at blu-ray.com are too nice.

If I was an Irish NT supporter I would be pissed off for a long time. Yes refereeing mistakes happen but this is on another level. IMO, it doesn't matter if the French team are much stronger or whatever happened before that moment. This awful refereeing robbed the Irish of their chance to get to PK.

Here is the replay of the handball:

yep, I said earlier that we were robbed.. but upon reflection, Ireland only have themselves to blame for the multitude of chances missed. Everyone keeps going on about the handball, but, it was near impossible to see! I am sticking with my opinion that they are using this as an excuse to cover up for all their missed chances.

I would not wish anyone illfate but to belittle the fact that Henry cheated in order to create the goal scoring opportunity cannot be under estimated. Also Anelka blatantly dived in an attempt to get a penalty. Not withstanding Irelands shortcomings to finish the game off they did not deserve to go out in such a manner. Of course it wasn't helped by Platinni changing the rules on seeded teams avoiding each other. FIFA and UEFA are run by ahole's.

Ya I don't think it was possible to see it happen live. I mean, it's not fair to make judgments when we are looking at the instant replay from multiple angles when the referees have less than a second to react and don't see the same things we do.

To be fair, yes the handball might be hard to see live. However, FIFA should do something about this. That handball equals cheating. The cheating that the ref/linesman did not see and lead to a goal. Surely FIFA can't simply imply that if the officials didn't see it then it's okay to cheat especially at this level. But knowing FIFA, they won't do ****.

Also, it happened so quickly I'm not sure if it would have been given as a free kick anywhere!

Ireland had enough chances to win the game in the 90 minutes. They should have been on the place to South Africa by half time!

The Irish press are going to give out about this tomorrow and for the coming days, but I think that it is just a way to hide their frustration, as they know Ireland should have won this game long before extra time.

These things happen in football, every week! Its unfortunate, but until a video referee is brought in (which I hope it wont) we will continue to see these things. It is part of the game, has been for years and will be for many more.

All the hate will be towards Henry, but what can he do? It's instinct! "Keep the ball in play!" He wasnt thinking, as the ball was coming in, "I'm going to handle this ball".. It just happened in the blink of an eye.

Henry sat down beside Dunne after the game. I would like to think that Henry actually said "Sorry.. what could I do?" to Dunne. I believe he did. Henry respects Dunne from their time playing against each other in England and I think Dunne would have accepted his apology and accept that, although they seem unfair at the time, these things happen.
Fantastic post mate.

At least as an Irish England fan.. you still have a reason to watch the world cup.

That was naughty from Henry, but I'm sure anyone would have done the same in that position. It's up to the ref to see it and call it anyways. Unlucky Oireland.

And so the email forwards begin with many a picture highlighting last nights events!

Some pics are far too explicit to post here.. I still think this going way over board.. Some of the pics are just a bit of fun sure, but others are just plain wrong.

(Henry playing Gaelic football ie Irish football where use of the hands is key)

The last pic went around my office and was directed at a French person who was asked to translate.. She said "The Irish football team will stay home for quite some time again.." To which the reply came "I thought it said 'the French football team are cheating *******' "

I also received this email this morning..... As if

Quote:
Calling all Ireland Supporters, This only takes 30 seconds to complete.

If you care AT ALL about Ireland being cheated out of taking part in the World Cup by France last night, Please, Please, click on the following link to the petition calling on FIFA to have a re-match.

For anyone who didn't watch game - & I'm sure you can catch incident on youtube - France's Thierry Henry handballed TWICE to keep the ball in play & it directly led to a the goal which put Ireland out of the World Cup....Irish Goalie Shay Given didn't even try to save it, as he knew it was a hand-ball!

Sign this petition & send it to all your contacts in Ireland & abroad - The Irish have so many friends all over the world. If they get 10+million signatures, they will have to seriously rethink it. Don't let this go.
http://www.gopetition.com/online/32214/sign.html#se
Or let FIFA know directly,

I didn't see any of the controversy, but I pulled the above quote out of that email you received. Every kid, 8 yrs old, is taught, you play to the whistle. If that is indeed true, I'd be extremely pissed at the keeper. he'd be just as responsible.

again, if it was a savable shot.. I haven't seen it, but found that interesting.

In fairness to Given he did shoot out a hand in an attempt parry Henry's pass and didn't raise his hands to appeal until the ball crossed the line.

i am torn by what happened in the ireland v french game. i hate the french NT on a personal level because of this rivalry with my italian NT going back to euro 2000 and wc 2006. but i'll be the first to admit that the wc wouldn't be the same without them. they are a true super power team due to their vast supply of talented players. the wc wouldn't be the same if a powerhouse team was missing imo. not saying brazil/italy/germany/argentina/france/england should just be automatically qualified based on their stature but the tournament wouldnt be the same without them.

i feel terrible for the irish supporters. shouldn't really hate on henry too much though. he admitted it to the ref after the play and the ref didn't call off the goal. nothing he can do really. it was intentional but its kind of natural instincts.
