Wow, what a discussion over something so small.

OP:
If you like stuff like that just buy it. I many not be into this kind of stuff, but IMO $40 is still too much for a bracelet made of stainless steel(?).

As for people ripping on this guy for buying something "useless", shame on you. If you want to think like that then most people on this forum are "wasting" money when they collect posters, steelbooks, action figures, etc. We buy that stuff because it looks nice to us and others we know. This guy wants to buy it because it looks nice to him and his friends. You wouldn't walk up to a guy on the street and mock/question his sense of style, so why do it here?

I'm not sure Afrobean ever said that his friends think it looks nice, so now you're just speculating. I don't really know how old he is, but if I saw one of my friends in their mid-20s wearing that bracelet, I'd probably tease them about it. If you answer to Zordon, then be prepared to face the consequences.

And sure, maybe people wouldn't mock him on the street, but I don't think he'd be soliciting opinions of it on the street either, so what is your point? We're on the internet, that's how it tends to work.

I'm sure (or at least I hope) that Afrobean isn't too bothered by any of the posts in the thread. If he likes it, and wants to spend his money on it, then I think he realizes it's his choice to make. If anything, he may only be surprised that people didn't think it was as cool as he likely thought it was when he made the thread, but I don't imagine he's personally offended. It's just a watch. Or a bracelet.

Wont' quote you toefer

My comments were more about where this thread was going. His question was about money and what he his getting for it. Yes, he did not ask for an opinion, but people started anyway, then they started bashing, and so on. What is the point of that? Starting pointless arguments and just bickering with each other. It all starts out the same and ends up like an xbox.com forum.

Yes, I hope my speculations are correct about his friends liking it

I would EASILY get my money's worth out of the enjoyment I'd have if I could mod a bluetooth module into the face of this thing (of which, the modding would be half the fun). If I don't manage that, I admit I'd have a hard time getting 40 bucks worth of entertainment out of it, which is why I'd rather get it as a Christmas gift than just buy it for myself.

I've always found it funny when one person tells another person that they're wasting money.

Money is meant as a current for exchange of goods. If there is a good or service a person wants and considers the value of the good or service to be equal or greater than the monetary cost, they are perfectly justified to make the exchange. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. There are plenty of things I think aren't worth the money, but I tend to bite my tongue rather than admonish someone for using their money how they choose.

And bro, the insults really aren't necessary. I'm sure the same things you're saying to me about this novelty item could be said of purchases you have made yourself. We all have indulgences. And if you don't? Congrats on having a boatload of cash and absolutely no possessions to enjoy.

Yeah. Other people I had pointed this out to who didn't recognize it as being from Power Rangers said it looked like a cool steampunk design, but pointed out that it was unfortunate it wasn't a functional timepiece (as if I'm worried about having yet another timepiece).

This is the kind of response I would expect from people. Either they'd recognize it from Power Rangers and think it's pretty cool (anyone who recognizes it probably has fond memories as I do), or they'd think it's a weird steampunk fashion statement. I wouldn't expect anyone to express such disdain for me simply having a desire to own such a piece of "jewelry". And if I could show them a functional bluetooth module in it? I think everyone would be flabbergasted and ask where they can get a bluetooth watch.

Ok, so it doesn't have a speaker or mic, but still!

Yeah, once you mentioned it was from Power Rangers, I went back and looked at it and thought "yeah, I guess so" but then realized I still don't really remember it. Something about it seems Power Ranger-y though. Kind of reminds me of Rita for some reason.

I'd pay good money if some company was willing to make a cell phone that looked like this:

regarding TMNT communicator:

http://blog.makezine.com/archive/200...municator.html

Substitute the Star Trek toy item with this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Teenage-Mutant-N...item4398e9977d

lol 160 bucks for that plastic toy

I had one of those back in the day, it's probably up in a box in the attic right now with all my other old TMNT toys. Definitely not worth 160 bucks. And it's not even accurate to what they had on the show apparently either! So bad. Maybe I'd be better off giving you a link you to a guide to how to cast custom resins of original sculpts, because that'd be the only way to match the screen communicator.

To hell with phones telling you time, I still need a nice watch. I consider it a statement, so I'm relatively a watch collector - I favor Bulova and Seiko currently. Nothing too expensive, i.e., over $1k. My current faves right now that I wear the most are these two babies:

Far too ostentatious in my opinion. I'd never be able to wear something like that.

This is my current timepiece of choice.

A pocket watch. I really would like to get a different chain for it though. I hate that chain. It's terrible. And that reminds me. I need to get a new band for my current wristwatch of choice, since the leather was too weak and broke up from repeatedly putting it on and taking it off every day.

Well, in all reality, I am exuberantly ostentatious - I like to call it bravado,

Good thing I only surround myself with the company of minorities, we don't use the term "douchebag" - don't think I've ever been called that.

lol. But call me pretentious if you will.

I guess you guys would only know the feeling I have by looking at something like this: http://gizmodo.com/025437/bluetooth-...k-communicator
I recognized it as soon as I saw this thread

I used to love that show in all of its cheesy crappy goodness

Not bad. I'm a fan of Citizen. Looks great and are decently placed. My wish list is an Omega...yes, the same as 007 wears lol. Too bad it's about 2000 though. Bvlgari is nice too but up there in price.

Movado I'm beginning to like as well. I'll mess with Bvlgari once I've settled down, lol. I'm not sure I could ever do Rolex, I feel as if that is cliche'd.

You seem to be the go to guy when it comes to watches here, what is your opinion of Invicta watches? I really like a couple of their Russian Diver series.

I prefer the wristwatch I just got, A Men's "Stuhrling" 20 Jewel Automatic Skeleton Watch, it's a beaut! (the best of all the price, FREE from Amazon Vine, all I have to do is write a review of the item!)

To see the gears spinning is uber cool, I like automatic watches much more the the typical battery operated quartz movements.

I wont wear this puppy to work, my "Invicta" quartz is my work watch.
