What do you think this is? Burger King? You can't have it your way. Toshiba, Sony, Fox, or anybody else putting there name on expensive technology doesn't care if you can't put your favorite movies on a server. You still have yet to give a reason for this. I imagine it is out of convienence to you and only you. Stop picking your nose, and take the extra 10 seconds to open the case and put it into your player. DONE! Holy Bovine Crap! I just solved your problem. There is no real reason to back up your movies, except for disposable convenience. Get over it girly-man.

Plus, Sony is releasing a Blu-ray server!!! except it is probably too expensive for your HD DVD budget.

Exclamation HD-DUD needs your support

blu R.I.P your name comes right off the bat as someone that just wants to start trouble here. Just go back to AVM$ & post this rubbish over there. As far as Blu-Ray I am glad people won't be able to burn and back up movies. This will help lower prices and stop douche bags that want to copy them and distribute them for cheap. I say just to HD-DUD and when you realized that your format is dead don't come back here crying stating that you had made a big mistake a year from now like Paramount with HD-DUD.

Perhaps, but let's remember that it's just an assumption. This kind of argument won't hold water in a courtroom.

Consumers have rights, so do the copyright holders. It's the pirates that are violating the copyright holders' rights. In the end, some people want both consumers and pirates to be held accountable which isn't right.

Basically, it's similar to the concept of group punishment.

In addition said media playback device would have to be powerful enough that you can actually play it at full speed, which means either a PS3 or a modern pc. Both can play back BDs locally, so the only thing you'd gain is not having to move your butt over to the media rack and then insert the disc into the player.
Laptop - PS3 via media server. I don't know about something as large as what a Blu-ray file would be. But I've watched a 300Meg video in that fashion.

It is indeed.

Good to hear you'll support Blu-ray, and can't say it is good to hear you'll support HD DVD--I just simply have never understood the draw to support both, as IMO, it lays more credence to high def in general becoming niche.

Well, hopefully as you continue to see more BDs and their superior PQ and AQ, you'll start singin the Blus.

i will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume your reasons are legit.
1) i understand wanting to copy something to avoid scratching the original (i do it to my games, it has saved me from repurchasing a couple), but the scratch-resistance has been dramatically improved for BD.
2) BD+ will be cracked, everything eventually gets cracked, just give it time. Macrovision, CSS, and ArcoSS weren't cracked overnight.
3) there isn't much use backing up (or even pirating for profit) BD yet. who knows how many BD players accept R/RW, the PS3 hasn't been modded yet (as far as i know), and blank BD media is still way up there in price. you'd essentially be spending as much on a backup as the original (or making zero profit if you're pirating)
4) what else are you gonna do, back up hd-dvd? with what blank media? what burner? they're not easy to come by.

Yes, I was wrong and you were correct. The discs have been cracked. But you cannot deny the fact the blu-rays continued protection research has not attracted more support. Ask New Line.

Yeah but the movie you watched was probably DVD quality so maybe 8mbps transfer rate. Imagine watching 40mbps transfer rate, its not gonna happen over wireless. Its not the size, its the transfer rate that matters.

Probably wasnt even that good. But yeah, I agree that it would be very hard to watch it via that method.

Back to the actual topic...Why not just get the 200 disc changer...a couple HDMI splitters, and some long HDMI cables running to whatever tvs in your house.

No doubt.

Look, the bottom line is if you want to continue to enjoy HD disc media you will soon have to purchase a bluray player unless you are satisfied with your current HD movie collection. HD-DVD WILL fade away and bluray will continue to dominate the market until DUD is no more. The sooner you realize this and stop making silly excuses for your wrong first choice in HD disc media the better off you will be.

the thing is i really dont care which format gives me HD, as long as i can watch it the way i want to, whether on a computer or whatever the bottom line for me regardless of the attacks is im a little upset that blu ray has taken steps to make it more difficult for me to watch the movies however i chose , and i think you are right these formats will only be a niche,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't BD just added protection used to detect illegal copies (beyond what AACS allows) and modded players?

That is why we are not on AVS.

Blurip-

I understand that you want to watch movies your way. There is some give&take though. If you want to backup your movies then you have to go DVD and HD DVD. If HD DVD puts protection into their discs, that leaves you with DVD. I know you know that, but if you want HD content you might have to make some sacrifices.
