Default Warner Bros. Says Goodbye to Female-Lead Films

Horrible and what a slap in the face to audiences.

One word: Elektra.

After watching that bomb, I don't blame em.

Look, they are in the business to make money, And if these films aren't doing well
At the moment, why invest...just to be fair?
I think the whole "Girl power" / Women are better than men thing is annoying quite frankly.
Now we have one running for president, which I believe if elected would be a huge mistake, but thats a whole other topic.

the 1st 5 min of Elektra was good then it went bad,,,
thing is they try to the movie a feel good movie
if it was her going around killing and fighting it whoud have been MUCH better
the little girl story was sooo crapy and did not fit elektra from the comics
infact thats true with all WB made movies with female comic chars
they redo it so she is softer. catwoman was bad do to BAD CG and bad story
elektra is a cold blooded killer who at times kills for good but she always
heartless and in no way careing,

Elektra wasn't that bad. It was a quite fun movie, I thought.

As far lacking in women leads....that sorta limits some of the movies I'll go see then. lol Most of my favorite films have female leads, at least the ones I'd go to the movies to see. Now I can't think of one that was made by Warner though...so maybe their problem is just not generally picking the best female lead movies? lol

And you can't blame it on Elektra, that has been out for what seems like forever now...not new enough for everyone's scapegoat. :P

Underworld and Aeon Flux are the only ones coming to mind for me specifically.

[ add / edit : clarity ]
I mean in general, not just for WB.
As female lead titles that were 'good'.

I don't beleive it has anything to do with the fac that they are "women" in general. It has more to do with the fact that most people that go to see movies are men. I see A LOT of guys at movies. That and the other issue has been mentioned, women lead films do not gross as much as male lead films.

I think the real issue at hand here is they have not found the right women For instance, Alien series. Woman lead and one hell of a franchise. Maybe a fluke? Who knows.

Companies need to stop fasting these teeny boppers as leads. Jessica Biel or whatever I don't consider and actor in any shape. She's too young and does not have appeal to the older audience. For some she is just eye candy.

Women that are "eye candy" do nothing for the film in the long run. Which is why they are having problems.

Pick stronger, older women and you might have a hit or two or three. No more of these "girls" that just got done with puberty please.

It's not about "girl power"; it's about males and females getting equal treatment in the medium. One isn't better than the other but when one is treated poorly or like they are less than the other it is not right.

Bullshit. No offense to women here, but you all wanted equal rights correct? Why is it I don't see you doing the same jobs at Lowes, lifting 50+ pound boxes, bags, tiles. Why are you not trash people? Why are most UPS drivers men?

Sorry, but some women moan and complain about rights, yet when they are suppose to step up, its all about how "feminine" they are and they can't break a nail.

Give me something new thank you. Lastly, I am too tired of hearing about it. Get over it already.

Wow...that is...wow. I won't get into any of that but say I disagree to the highest degree possible (I'm a guy by the way, too).

you know in a way thats kind of true like i would see women doing like all of the paperwork and answering the phone calls and then i see these guys busting their asses and the girls dont do a thing about it they just sit there. i believe what you are trying to say is that there are a good amount of girls who are kind of lazy but older women just do what needs to be done and the younger ones complain like oh too much work and make up excuses like that

So are you saying that only men can act? You have obviously never had a mother, wife, or girlfriend. Otherwise you know women put on several acts a day and they pull them off very well.

I use to work in a bar many years ago . Worked behind the bar and we had a couple women waitresses and they made a shit load of tips, Whenever there was a problem they came to me to remove patrons break up the fights etc. Never did they do anything for me or pass me a few bucks at the end of the day which is typical in most places. If they want the job then they should do the job. Nowadays it seems alot of establishments are using women for bartenders . Who do they call when the going gets rough?

No I have to agree with the original post. Im all for male/female equality. But I CANNOT stand girl-power movies where its all about female superiority.

That being said, I find this to be a public relations no-no. Sure if they dont want to make female-lead movies, fine thats their business decision, but they definitely shouldnt have gone out and made it known.

Elektra was awesome compared to CATWOMAN. I felt like shooting myself watching catwoman. it was horrible by all mean. and lost some IQ because of it.

Is everyone just forgetting this movie?

Kill Bill proved a female lead can still produce a blockbuster action/violent movie - the movie just needs to be good.

Much like any issue where the "feminist" issue crops up, as long as they have the credentials and produce the results (i.e. as Uma did as an action hero in Kill Bill) it really makes no difference what gender the lead is.

I didn't forget about Kill Bill, it just wasn't in my list of favorite movies.

Same reason why I wouldn't have listed Die Hard series if the news was that some studio was not going to make any more films with male leads.

enjoy

Three of the best movies have female leads

1. Aliens ( is there any man who would take on Ripley I don't think so)
2. Teminator not so much, but T2 for sure
3. Mulholland Dr. This has two female leads, Naomi Watts should have won an Oscar in 2000 for Mulholland Dr. ( Is this the type of movie you were talking about, probably not, oh well)

If it's true it's the most F-ed up thing I've heard regarding movies in a while.
