No, you can only get DTS-HD MA and TrueHD over HDMI or analog outs. Does your blu-ray player have the ability to bitstream over HDMI?

Edit: I'm having trouble finding a manual online for this player. From what I've seen, it looks like it supports decoding of TrueHD but not DTS-HD MA. Have you tried running the audio as PCM over the HDMI to test whether you're getting the lossless audio this way?

You should check that the blu-ray player is set to output Bitstream and not PCM, also check that your movie is set to play the HD soundtrack. Some of them (especially Warner Blu-rays) default to regular Dolby Digital and you need to change it in the menu.

In a nutshell, yes the 605 can decode DTS HDMA and Dolby TrueHD. You need to connect the blu-ray player with an HDMI cable and set your player to bitstream and make sure the appropriate track is selected when you play a blu-ray. In the receiver's setup menu, you want to also make sure it's set to play DTS HDMA and Dolby TrueHD when it receives them, and not downconvert to DTS and Dolby Digital. Here is a link to the 605s manual.

fireman is correct, as I had the 605 just like he used to. His post is spot on about how to set up the 605 to display the proper audio track from your player.

I know this may be a silly question, but I have to ask to be sure.......you are trying to play a blu that has a Dolby True HD or DTS-HD track, right?

This is extremely important. I had the 605 and couldn't figure it out either. Then I turned off the HDMI audio out and that was the problem.

ok guyz I figured it out...

there were 3 settings:

~PCM - player does the decoding so no lit up hd logos on the reciever

~Bitstream Re-encode - reencodes and outputs standard dts

~Bitstream Audiophile - outputs audio to be decoded by the reciever (we have hd lights!

The only problem is you cant switch between PCM and Dolby/DTS HD on the movie with out modifying the player settings

I wouldn't worry about that. The only difference there is PCM is letting the player decode the HD audio and send it out over HDMI, and Bitstream Audiophile is sending the HD audio out for the receiver to decode. There should be no difference in sound between the two.

I don't think you need to switch the settings on the player ever. What are you thinking here?

The PCM output includes secondary audio. Bitstream Audiophile does not.

If you you want secondary audio, then it's best to set the output to PCM and you can leave it there. But, of course, lossless won't light up on the AVR.

Also, while the PCM produced by player and receiver decoding will be the same, some AVRs handle post decoding processing differently depending on where the decoding was done.

You're right BIslander. I always forget about secondary audio, because I rarely use it.

BlueOx, he is right though. If you use the commentary tracks often when watching a movie, you'll definitely want to leave the audio selection on PCM. I think that if you bitstream, you lose the menu beeps and clicks as well, during playback. Just something to keep in mind.
