Transformers 1... no question.

It had much more charm than the second one... And I say that with the authority of someone who has seen ROTF several times on Blu-ray recently.

Let us hope that nuimber 3 recaptures the magic of the first one.

I've seen the 2nd recently and finally got around to watching the first again tonight. Here's my comparison after seeing the 2nd 6 times total and seeing the first one again more recently:

What I liked more about the first:

Optimus - he seemed much cooler in the first one on rewatching.
Optimus's dialogue (including opening and closing of the film)
Ironhide - he actually had a place in the movie....
Ratchet - same...
Megan Fox - I liked her character more in the first one, she is annoying in the second. And on a more shallow note, she was much more attractive in this one.
The parents - they are actually pretty funny in this one
Megatron - he looks cooler in this one and seems more evil imo.
Starscream - he isn't a...well you know.
The side characters - Anthony Anderson was hilarious in the movie; and I don't mind the Australian woman.
Lennox and Epps - bigger (and better) parts
Mojo - he didn't "dominate" anyone
The final battle - it was just all around better imo (though Optimus is insanely awesome at the end of 2, the fight was too short)
The head government guy - Voight > the guy who wants to shut down NEST in RotF.
The humor - nearly all of it was funny
The feel of the movie - something about it just feels different, in a good way.

What I liked more about the second:

The mid-movie fight - There was one
Simmons - I thought the character was annoying in the first but liked him a little in the second
...and that's it really.

Things that were equally awesome in both movies:

Bumblebee

My final verdict on the films:

I LOVE the first movie.
I like the second movie.

The second movie hasn't held up nearly as well the first for me under repeat viewings.

I hope the 3rd returns is much more like the first than the 2nd; though it is unlikely since the writers aren't returning.

You found the story in a Michael Bay movie engaging?

By what means was the story engaging? BOOM EXPLOSION! over and over?

You could actually see what was going on this time.
It was hard for me to admit to myself that I like ROTF more than the first one. But here's why - and I think this logic actually makes sense, to me at least:

I don't think either movie is a good movie, really. I don't watch them for the story. The only reason I really liked the first one was for it's mindless action scenes of giant robots fighting. Part 2 had a lot more of the only reason I liked Part 1, and I agree that it was much easier to see what was happening.

If you have to choose, I'd say the first. It has more of Spielberg's influence. The second one seems to be all Bay's.

Spot on!

Some intelligent people actually feel like their intelligence are insulted by watching movies such as these. I don't, I just relax and pretty much expect what I'm about to see, it's still impressive.
Although I refuse to see G.I. Joe and New Moon, I have a quota that's spent on Transformers

G.I. Joe was alright. I'd even say it was better than Transformers 2.

I voted for the first one, on story alone. The acting was bad in both films but Megan Fox's acting (if you can call it that) was beyond bad, I have seen better acting on the Sci-Fi channel. In the past I have commented on how much I hated the first one and yet I bought them both (I blame the mrs. on that) but the first one is better than the second and that ain't saying much

The first by a long shot. The story was simple, but it made sense. The robots had more characterization, where the 2nd just threw in bunch a new ones for show. Too many pointless comedic sidekicks in the second, with humor that fell flat or was aimed at 7 year olds. To me, it felt like there was less action in the 2nd film. With the exception of the forest battle (which was the best part of that movie), there's hardly any decent action in the middle of the movie.

I don't think the set of 'low hangers' on Devastator was aimed at 7 year olds.

The humor in the second one was definitely NOT aimed at children...

Unless robot testicles, dogs humping, robots humping, multiple crotch jokes and calling someone a ***** is 7 year old humor these days.
