I was surprised too when I started looking at BDs, and prices have only become better.
A similar thing happened with me, I just bought a couple of nice sets for good prices
and already have like 30-40 films now.
If it will last, well... if companies can afford it, which apparently they can,
I don't see why they'd have to boost up the price at one point again.
Other than just to rip-off the consumers, but they'll sell less, so they won't.
I think the market-prices have pretty much already settled.
And this is good, it's all at a good price, it's not too expensive, which is good for sales and the format.

I feel you might be disappointed if you're talking about the Skynet Edition advertised at the top of the blu-ray.com page, I don't think this one is a steelbook as I believe the steelbook is now out of print.

Unless I'm mistaken.

Actually, he lives in England and the UK-version of "T2" does still seem to sell as Steelbook there apparently.
Too expensive though, especially considering the transfer.

Warner Bros. has lead the way on this situation. Several other studios (can't think of them at this time) have follwoed closely behind. They announced about 3 months ago that they were aiming to make Blu-ray more affordable in order to create larger market penetration. Warner started it all by announcing that they were going to push for their new releases to be available for $19.99. Therefore, that pushes previously released and catalogue prices further down to compensate.

I don't expect the prices to disappear entirely after Christmas. However, I anticipate the prices to go up $1-$2.

Concur. Last year, BD pricing rose immediately after Christmas, and sure enough, the prices fell sharply again this holiday season. I would hope that there might be some staying reduction as the format continues to gain a hold, but I won't be a bit surprised if a lot of us wind up waiting patiently each week for the good sales, like we enjoyed at times last summer.

I think the party is already over.
Sure, I bought Band of Brothers for 40 bucks (shipped!) from amazon, but the Star Trek Original Motin Picture Collection jumped from 64.99 to 82.99 already. And the Batman Anthology went from 51.99 to 72.99 in a matter of about two days. My wallet appreciates it, but my goal to reach 100 doesn't, which ironically enough will effect my wallet

Thank God. I've bought over fifty movies and half a dozen TV series on Blu-ray in Q4.

i rermember that announcement too,and i read it here on blu-ray .com. also walmart has there one row of 10.00 bds and a display with a sony hdtv,blu-ray player,a ps3 and surrounding it is 14.99 blu-rays.in fact i picked up silverado for 14.99 and that was long before the holidays.

you guys are bunch of worry warts, the prices have to come down if the studios want the market penetration.dvd did the same thing in its day and the prices came down.
