This was the most amazing movie I have seen in years. Only 2 movies that were well worth the money this year. Avatar and not too far behind was District 9. I was totally blown away by Avatar! I'm watching it again!! 3D is the only way to watch it. I think the second time will have to be in IMAX though.

It's cowboys and indians all over again.
You're exactly right, Jake said as much very early on.

AVATAR was hands-down the most amazing film I saw in theaters this year, but was anyone else annoyed by the sound effects? There's one ear-piercing sound, in particular, that was used for a variety of things from creatures to arrows to missiles flying through the air. Made me feel like Cameron and Co. ran out of imagination late in production.

I was annoyed by the score.Think the writer(s) of the smash Dion hit in titanic has a good chance of suing the ass of the composer of avatar

Will say this about Avatar:Think it may be the best date-movie ever.Even better than Titanic.Maybe I've found Mr.Cameron's forte....Maybe I'm full of gass...

You're right this was definitely NOT James Horner's best score imo. Braveheart will always be my favorite of his. That was the only weak point of the film for me. The whole score wasn't bad just some of the action or chases sequences. The softer melodies between Jake & Neytiri were nice

Did you catch a hint of Braveheart in the Avatar soundtrack. You may have to buy it really to hear it rather than with dialogue and explosions and all. Its there, subtle but there!

I agree that the score was weak and didn't come close to Titanic.

did you even see it in 2D? i personally liked 2D... compared to 3D , it seemed to be more fresh... 3D will always be a gimmick for me i guess

A lot of it sounded like it was lifted directly from ENEMY AT THE GATES to me. I've noticed the same thing with other Horner scores. I think he's getting lazy.

Well it goes with John Williams too, alot of his music sounds the same to me. It starts to all mesh together and I think they are just tweeking a little bit of a previous soundtrack for the next movie! I did enjoy the Avatar soundtrack though!! Quite enjoyable.

While not addressed to me, I'll answer this.

Yes, I saw it in 2D as well. IMAX was far better. Normally, I'd agree with gimmicks and stuff for other movies, but not this one.

Of course, I'd pass on the normal Avatar 3D and just hit the 2D one if I wasn't going to do IMAX.

I saw this opening weekend in Imax 3-D. It was the first 3-D movie I've seen since I was a kid (around Jaws 3-D timeframe) and was VERY impressed with the tech involved in both showing it, and the tech that the characters were using in the story.

That being said, I was not impressed with the story.

A couple of the magazine articles I have read about it quoted Cameron in saying he wanted to make a "Star Wars" type movie, and they felt he did with this. Frankly, I have to disagree.

In my opinion Lucas, when making Star Wars, told a story and made the tech fit with what he wanted to say.

It seems to me Cameron showed off technology and made a story to fit almost as an afterthought...which to me is backwards.

I'm thrilled he pulled it off, hopefully it means people will use the 3-D tech as more than just a gimmick, that it will ecliplse 'morphing' and become a useful tool in story telling.

Just make the story telling aspect of the whole process the top priority.

Awesome, yeah, screw the day, I'll watch Avatar. I have never bought a Steelbook but if this comes in a steelbook, i will buy it and never open it.

What would be some other cool cases this could come in?

Well when it comes on Blu it will also be 2D. The 3D version will come out in about 2-3 years when the 3D TV's are a little more out in the homes of consumers

The 2D version will be nice
