Any Disadvantages using a PS3 as a Blu-ray Player?

For some reason it won't show any of the media files that are on my memory stick, it detects the device though. Not sure if it is a firmware issue or there needs to be some naming/directory structure..the online manual is not available yet and the printed one is not very helpful in this matter. Unfortunately I don't have a USB HDD (I really need a friend at Best Buy or something

Also, I did a quick timing on the blu-ray loading times, it took about 5 seconds for the disk icon to show up on the screen after I inserted it, then another 10 seconds until the first movie images appeared after I clicked on it. Not sure how this compares to other players.
