Default Amount of PS3 units cut again?

I thought 2 million by the end of 06, 4 million total by the end of the fiscal year, but I just read this-

Kazuo Hirai, chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said about 400,000 units will be available in the U.S. in the initial launch and an additional 600,000 by the end of this year.

Sony hopes to have a total of 2 million consoles in the U.S. market by the end of company's fiscal year, which ends in March.

Sounds about right to me.

At this point, they'd be wise to start throwing at super conservative figures and then hopefully just end up pleasantly surprising everyone.

They're shooting to have about 400,000-500,000 by the end of 2006, yes?

I have no problems believing 2 million by March 2007 at all if everything holds up.

Not sure if that's a "cut back" or not.

I think those numbers are pretty good myself.

Default Productin capacity of PS3

Once PS3s begins full-production, the maximum production rate is thought to be around 1,200,000 per month.
However, it takes about three weeks from production to market delivery. Because PS3's main mass production factory is in Taiwan, and they are transported a sea route to North America.

For such a reason, PS3s produced in December cannot sell within this year. An additional number of 600,000 by the year end is equal to it if SCE began full-production in November, so products are halved with Japan and North America.

I do believe that the numbers are:
400,000 PS3s for launch day (11/17/06) for North America (REMEMBER, that means 400,000 launch units up for grabs for Americans AND Canadians), and then an additional 600,000 units up for grabs for Americans AND Canadians by 12/31/06.
We cannot forget our Canadian friends.

Your first sentence is a worldwide number. Hirai is talking about the US only. There is no discrepancy.

Well if the PS3 is assembled in Taiwan, then it make sense for Sony to cut back on US/Japan units when they know it will cost them a lot of money to air freight them over. At least I think to Japan is less costly.

Releasing those units to Taiwan and HK is a good move since you're catering to the demand there. Undoubtedly those units will probably be sold back to the US and Japanese consumers.

Oh crap....I forgot.

Hong Kong and Taiwan are also selling starting November 17 (same time with North America)

Yet for the rest of Asia, Europe and Oceania, we get stuck till around March 2007.

I don't know though as to why HK and "Formosa" get units ahead of the rest of us in Asia. Maybe it's because SCE has AT LEAST TWO offices in those respective countries and Chinese language (audio and text) is usually done there.

So yeah, I guess that's why they went ahead of us.

In other related news......

Japanese PS3 available for pre-order on an import site.......for USD$1000!!!!!

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-...en-70-p62.html

Pucha, taas ng markup.....

I can't even believe this myself. I guess that's the price you're gonna pay if you want to import one ASAP.

That's 50,000 Philippine pesos (which is the price of Samsung's Blu-ray player at launch).

Damn that's high.

Its 1,000,000 by the end of 2006. 400k on launch, another 600,000 in weekly increments for the rest of the year.

Yes, it's funny how some people seem to forget that launch day is precisely that: One day. Over the following weeks tens of thousands more PS3's will arrive at, and instantly leave, the retailers.

My bet is 2,000,000 until Dec.31, 2006.

Then around 1,000,000-1,200,000 units per month starting from January, February and March of 2007.

I'm betting that they can AT LEAST get 5,000,000 units at the end of their fiscal year or up to 6,000,000 units by end of Sony Fiscal Year 07 (just like what they said).

I'd be delighted if they make their promised 6m units but if you ask me, I'd still be happy if they made 5m units worldwide.

This is true and here is proof (hey it rhymes )

Taiwan

Hongkong

It's seems to be a bit cheaper than the US prices as well. So HK and Taiwan peeps are getting a good steal.

Plus, if they order the 60 GB HDD model, they get a chance to select any of the four free game titles available.

-Ridge Racer 7
-Mobile Suit Gundam : Target in Sight
- Genji (Chinese version with Mandarin, Cantonese and English audio with Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English subtitles)
-Mahjong Fight Club for PS3 by Konami Digital Entertaiment

Then you can get a chance to win any of the free souveneirs:

Official preorders close on the following dates:
Hongkong - November 10
Taiwan - November 12

Units for pre-order buyers will be shipped beginning November 17, Friday.

This is the one I ordered in HK, will get it Friday next week

One more thing, you don't have to win the souveneirs, they all come with the package you ordered. If you order 60 GB model with 3 games and one extra gamepad, then you will get all three.

On the other hand, it's not just a bit cheaper, there is a hundred bucks difference between price from HK and price from US!

The one in HK is the cheapest one throughout the whole world

Yup your right.

It's like the 60 GB model sells for only like USD$100 (or around 5,000 bucks cheaper than US prices).

But I didn't expect that you can get ALL THREE souveneirs by simplying buy the 60 GB model along with a sixaxis controller and the three games. Wow, that really is a steal.

Plus, I'm also envious that your version of Genji is the Chinese version. I heard that it comes with :

Audio:
-English, Japanese, Mandarin and Cantonese
Subtitles:
-Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English and Japanese.

Wow, that's one bloody hell of a game for all territories :P

Anyways, I hope you'll enjoy your PS3 once you get it next week. I salute you for being one of the lucky HK and Taiwan people to get the PS3 along with the North American launching.

Best of luck to you.

P.S.

Don't forget to come back here and post about your PS3 experience once you get your console.

Numbers appear to be confirmed, but nothing on how quickly new stocks will arrive.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=20942

"The US is also getting a better deal than Japan in terms of availability of the system, with 400,000 units of the PS3 due to ship to US retailers for November 17th, while Japan will see only 80,000 units in stores this Saturday."

Kaz Hirai said about ten days ago at Hawaii, that after the launch of north american market additional allocation to NA to be around 600,000 by the year end of 2006.

And SCEA executive VP, Jack Tretton says in interview with Next generation, that the production yield of blue laser diode is improving continuously.

Somebody PM me about how to pre-order or secure a PS3 from HK. A friend's boss goes there weekly. How much are the games and how much is the extra Sixaxis?

Thanks

Actually I prepare everything for my PS3, like buying a HDMI switcher with DVI-HDMI cable as my TV has one DVI input only. Bought "MI 1-3" and "Click" BD's amd ordered loads of BD's from Amazon (Actually, my other main reason buying PS3 is watching BD's )

Of course I will post here again once I get mine next week, can't hardly wait

Here are the listed prices for games and Sixaxis:

Genji - around $41 USD
Gundam Target in Sight - around $58 USD
RR7 - around $49 USD
Sixasia - around $39 USD

Actually, I was almost unable to order during the online reservation. I kept watching the news during last week. When it's ready to reserve one on the Sony HK web. I did make a registration immediately, so did my two colleagues. However, only one of my colleagues got an email with further instruction. When I knew this, it's next day already. I called the hotline and found out my registration was failed. I begged for another reservation for this.

Luckly, I made it and my transaction was approved. The lady from the hotline told me that there were only 6 left after the approval!

This is my story. Hope everyone here can get one with "marked" price
