Default Is this the death of HD DVD?

Transformers - one of the biggest releases for HD DVD - has no lossless audo. Which is 50% of the hi-def experience. The reason - not enough space! We are only is the infancy of hi-def, and already there is not enough space. What will happin when longer films start coming out? There wont be a chance of fitting lossless sound. This is really a joke. HD DVD should be put to sleep, sooner rather then later.

oh god this makes me think that if paramount really is going to release Titanic on Hd-Dvd it will have to have no extras and no good sound and so the only way they could if it was a 2 disc set but that ruins the purpose of these high in GB discs compared to dvd

The death of HD DUD was last Nov and came in the form of PS3.

What's happening now is an effort to remind the losers that they lost. The HD DUDers are the thickest of sort and they can't take a hint and they hide from the facts but one way or another they will have to deal with it soon enough.

Its funny how the hdduds keep discounting the PS3 effect, when the PS3 effect keeps gaining momentum every week.

They shift the focus AS IF the PS3 doesn't count, which in case it DOES COUNT!!!!

GOODBYE hddud!!!!

Lets not forget the slew of BR Players coming out soon too.
What does Toshiba have....3?

Sam's Club and BJ's both have big end cap displays filled with the BDP-S300/301's.

Then we got the 40Gb PS3 coming soon. Every time the price drops by $100 the units sold per month double.

I would say its looking pretty good so far.

I don't feel it is the end of HD-DVD. I feel they have a lot invested in this and they won't give up until we are at the 90:10 range. Even then they probably won't give up.

According to the Amazon sales 90/10 might be closer that people think. If another studio could have another sale right after desney it sure would help.

Whether they give up is irrelevant; The retailers will give up on them.

Titanic is too long of a movie for a hd-dvd but for blu-ray it would be no problem because the movie itself is over 3 hours just by itself and they wish to put that in a 30Gb disc? black and white picture doesnt sound appealing at all maybe watching the white part would be but not the black and lossless sound? hd-dvd isnt even worthy of it

HD DVD will not lay down and die until POSSIBLY December 2008 - period. A contract is a contract unless,

A. Contract clauses let them out for financial reasons
B: They are allowed to buy out of the contract.

Paramount did do something nice and let Dreamworks put their name on the movies they produce. Translation: Future Dreamworks movies can show up on blu-ray. At least, this is what we hear and hope.

Yes, the space issue sucks. Titanic on HD DVD could very well be a two disc set like the DVD version of "The 10 Commandments." Or, they are waiting for the triple layer 51GB DUD.

Unless I am mistaken, BD25 is a 2 hour medium akin to a 2 hour DVD in SP mode. XP mode is one hour. In my humble opinion, a BD25 should not hold a movie longer than 90 minutes. That should leave enough space for better audio.

BD50 is the here and now, and BD100 is the future. Heck, I would settle for BD75.

About Toshiba's 51gig disc - all reports so far indicate that there may be a very big compatibility problem with ALL HD players currently on the market (and in people's homes) being unable to play the 51gig discs - seems that player's lens needs to be replaced. On the other hand, Hitachi (I believe) is putting the finishing touches on a 100gig BluRay disc. This would only require a simple firmware upgrade to existing players. I wonder if all the Toshiba "repairs" will be free? Will Toshiba supply owners with a shipping carton, pay the freight both ways etc? I doubt it. If I were an HD Toshiba owner and then Paramount and Universal came out with "improved" HD discs that I couldn't play, I'd be pisssed as hell.

Toshiba already pissed away 150 million at Paramount. What is a couple more million to fix these things and remain kissy faced with Microsoft? They give no indication of dropping the gauntlet. As long as SOMEONE supports the format they will continue this onslaught.
