I think they are not allowing the burner to come out due to the lack of copy protection. Then only one person would buy Transformers and make a million copies. They can't exactly afford to be loosing sales to their own pirated copies.

some truth to what you say but with transformers it wouldn't affect blu-ray profits as most people would buy the real one when it is released after paramounts deal expires.

Well as everyone else said... porn is no longer the deciding factor, in fact it is not a factor at all in this war wince the HD-DVD camp has spread the lie/rumor that there is no porn on Blu-ray (not true), and all HD disc porn is selling bad anyways cause it is all available online.
I also hear a lot of the actresses don't like it cause it shows so much detail that they can't hide the razor burn and pimples.

As for BETA and VHS... this is nothing like it. Before that war there were no home media formats for movies at all. The fact that porn was the deciding factor is overrated, yes it was a big factor, but the overall content was the real cause. Since no one could get porn at home (had to go to theaters and whatnot), the format that brings it into the home had a huge advantage. Sex sells... period. But right now, the porn industry decided that their business will be online! They have spent lots of money and a butt load of time on their internet businesses and are not making money from DVD sales like they used to.

Either way... the entire porn argument is just more FUD spread by the HD-DEAD camp. They love to come up with crap to try to make their format look like it will in. Can you believe I actually heard one say that beta max was superior but still lost, which is why Blu-ray will loose too. (Cause its better?)

BETA ~= HD DVD

why? Because technically, BETA was a better format than VHS... it lost because of corporate arrogance, the same of which Toshiba is now employing. You have a total of 2 CE manufacturers as opposed to the myriad of BD CE providors. in this era of information and the "empowered consumer", choice is a big factor. But BD is the better format across the board, so it cannot be compared to VHS.

It still makes me laugh when I think about the times when VHS and Beta came out - I was 8.

Damn, I can remember when blank VHS tapes were $15-20 and that was back in the late 70's. I'm surprised the sheer cost of just the tapes didn't bury both formats right out of the gate. Condisering most people were not as easy to accept new technologies (and the costs associated with them) as they do today.
