Those are Worldwide number and include Europe, Asia and Japan.

Personally, I am only concerned with the North American market as that is where I will be buying my movies and here the PS3 is just now creeping up to the 2 million mark.

It won't matter to me if Blu wins overseas and loses here.

I seriously doubt that the PS3 will sell more than 800k units in N. America over the next three months even with the new $399 PS3 simply because that unit will be in short supply between now and Christmas and that will leave the $499 unit as the only option the majority of consumers will find on the shelves.

At the moment I am still comfortable with the choice I made to go Blu, however if sales trends for Hd DVD stand alone units continue to rise like they have for the past three months (100k+ stand alone units a month is concerning) then I may have to start worrying again come '08.

I Really, really, really do not want to have committed to the Betamax: Mark II.

I understand that N America adoption of Sony's products (PS2, and BD) are slow. Europe is faster, and the majority of it loyal to playstation brand. Asia?? They are extremely loyal to Playstation (A survey by an Indonesian magazine indicate that most people loved PS2, followed by PS3)

To the point: although I lived in both Asia and Europe, I am more concerned to the number of N America (lowest of all those three markets).

it's a whole, u cannot be so blind to only look at the NA numbers, PS3 is doing great considering the price tag so it will surely outpace 360 next year, and not too long the Wii (well, it might just disappear beginnin of 2009 who knows, i heard those ppl who designed Wii are abducted by the aliens, cuz they made something extrmely ALIEN and out of this world in a bad way, they are going to be studied)

Yes, I am only concerned about the numbers for N. America since that is where I live.

If HD somehow manages to win in this market I do NOT want to be forced to have to order Blu releases from overseas.

I was fairly confident in my Blu decision but right now, the reports of HD stand alone players selling over 100k in the US for Sept. have given me new concerns since that means that their stand alone machines matched the PS3's sales here.

If that was a blip then fine, but if it happens again in Oct. then I think we will only be at the start of "round 2" for the format war.

Do you have any idea just how bad HDDVD standalones are selling? Toshiba has slashed their estimates every few months since january, and they look poised to do so again in the comming months. Bluray standalone sales are matching HDDVD standalone sales recently and that alone offsets any "gains" by HDDVD. The PS3 will help obliterate HDDVD.

Please note, the HD stand alone sales in N America matched the PS3's sales for Sept.

If that continues then there will be no "PS3 advantage".

Hopefully that was just a blip on the sales charts due to the A2 series close outs.

by considering the market as a whole ensures you that PS3 and BluRay r doing great all over the world, which means no matter what happened in one area, u'r set to receive ongoing support and contents! still dont make any senses to you??? oh boy.... I recommend some BA course or maybe a bit Philosophy

Toshiba does not sell 10,000 SA HD DVD units in a month, not even in a good month. But PS3 does. And then figure in all the SA Blu-Ray players and you do see a total sales figures of atleast 13,000 Blu-Ray players a month ( yes my PS3 is a Blu-Ray player ).

All I'll say is that the PS3 is a major asset for blu-ray. PS3 may not win the console war but they are far from disappearring also. There's something about video gaming in which a few consoles can sell against each other, yet many people are on the fence waiting on blu vs dud.

The PS3 is way better of a value than a cheap Toshiba player, or a ring-of-death possible 360 + hdud addon.
Because gamers in general are enthusiasts.

People who watch movies, in general, are not movie enthusiasts.

Vallos is just plain wrong.

If they sold 100k HD-DVD players in September Toshiba would have announced it. They wouldn't have lowered their yearly estimate by another 200k either.

The article quoted about not knowing about PS3s Blu-Ray capability is infuriating.

They asked people who had a "next-gen" console. 60% of those people were not aware that the PS3 had Blu-Ray.

That means that there were a whole lot of Wii and 360 owners in that 60%.

Every web site which reported that 60% of PS3 owners didn't know didn't bother to read the actual original report.

Basically, it's just more FUD.

Since I have a Masters Degree I doubt a BA course would be of much use. You on the other hand could certainly benefit from some remedial English and Spelling classes

do those number include the 'free' player that bundle with Matrix set ?
does HD mean high definition (hd-dvd & bd) or just hd-dvd ?
