Terrible movie with great production design, which I'm sure will look great on Blu-Ray.

If you're going to do this then I would really suggest you read the book first. Personally I don't know how someone who isn't at least aware of the story before hand could find the movie intelligible.

I would love to see the Tyrant Worm in all his regal glory, leading the known universe down "the golden path".
God Emperor of Dune is by far my favorite installment in the series. Its a shame that SyFy stopped making those, especially since their Children of Dune mini-series was phenomenal.

I didn't realize it got a bad rap.... I just thought it was most popular with those familiar with the books (which I admit that I haven't read) I think it's a great movie though.... and own the "other" versions, despite the fact they aren't nearly the caliber of the original.

Although I would say Blue Velvet and Dune are my favorites, Twin Peaks and Mulholland are also high on my list.

Yeah, I got the HD DVD, and I'm "hopeful" that this will have lossless audio..... is it confirmed? (I should read the link perhaps)

I really like the movie and even though I have the import already, I'm sure I'll pick up this one as well.

The extended version is amazing in its awfulness. I am talking about the version where Stan Lee narrates. It has to be seen to be believed. Alan Smithee indeed. I also cannot watch the SyFy version. It had the production values of a daytime soap opera. I do like the theatrical version of Dune, even though I am a fan of the book and it departs greatly. Usually this turns me off, but for some reason the Lynch version is a movie that I really, really like.

I was very dissapointed with movie the first time I saw it, but after each time I saw it and was able to answer more questions I originally had, this movie definately grows on you! finally read book 4years ago after seeing many times, I love this movie now but not like book, sci fi version much more like the book, but not better.

I got through 8? of the 9? novels and finally gave up - I just found them to be very heavy reading. Of course that was years ago.

Well, that's only if you want to count all of the new novels that are being written. They're OK, but I consider them to be essentially fan fiction.

The actual "Frank Herbert" Dune series is 6 novels:

Dune
Dune Messiah
Children of Dune
God Emperor of Dune
Heretics of Dune
Chapterhouse: Dune

And, yes, they're 'heavy reading'. Fantastic... but not exactly breezy beach reads. I re-read the first book every year or two.

Yes the Brian Herbert\Kevin Anderson novels are a little easier to read then the original ones by Frank Herbert. Personaly I enjoy them all, give's a lot of depth to that universe when you read them all in order

I never read any of the books, but I located the first book, and it looks quite small, and easily readable?

Looked to be something that could be easily knocked out in a weekend...didn't look heavy to me...

Start reading it and come back to us, you will see what we mean by heavy Even if Dune is actualy the easiest of the Frank Herbert books to read

I weakened and imported the French BD a couple of months ago, but I will probably pick this up if the quality is good.

I read the six original books and I think it helps. The story has so much depth that it's impossible to convey it in just over two hours. My mind fills in the gaps knowing the full story.

There are some good performances in this. It gets a lot of bad press but it's better than most sci-fi films. But then Lynch is my favorite director so I may be biased.

The Extended Edition is disgusting, if this edition doesn't contain it, it's no great loss to me.

My favorite sequence from the book is Paul's time in the desert. The extended version shows quite a bit of that. I am glad I saw it, but I agree that Lynch's cut is the better version by far.
