Default 103" Television - Would you pay $90,000?

Some guy in Welland, Ontario was in the newspaper. He boosted about owning the "biggest TV" in Canada. It's 103 inches and he actually paid more than $90,000 for it.

Would you pay even half that much?

I think I'll stick to front projectors.

At that size... wouldn't you get better quality from a project also? For a tenth of the price? And be much less bulky?

Although I guess the 103 can never be stolen...

Hmmm... I have an uncle in Welland who COULD afford it... but I doubt it's him. He seems content with his 24" tube TV hehe.

Hee, hee.

Yes, I agree. You can get the same or better quality for a fraction of that price. I own a 1080p projector and I'm very happy with it.

Huge waste of money. If the TV you want is 70", get a Sony SXRD. Beyond that, definitely get a 1080p projector.

Though I will agree that the TV would be VERY hard to steal.

$90,000 is too expensive. I'd rather buy a nice care for that amount of $

No thanks I will stick with a 50" for about 4 grand. Or I would spend 20 grand on a front projector. Saving of 70 g's. I have to save for a house yet I live in my parents basement I am the definition of a geek.

You can get a great 1080p projector for much less than $20,000.

Much less.

The 103" plasma is at ABT here in chicagoland. It is like looking at a mirror. The clarity from about 20 feet was unbelieveable. Definetly better than an image from a projector at that 100" size.

How about a house? Damn 90,000 if you could spend that on TV then it would prob not be that much $ to you since you'd prolly live in a 4mill house have 4 cars worth 500,000$ any way , so whats 90,000 on a BAD A$$ HDTV! IT will blow any projecter away, you have to see one in real life.......

Rather add that money in a down payment for a house.

A TV that large is clearly for the rich, who not only have the space, but probably have a theater style room to go with it. When you have multi-millions, what is a mere 90 grand?

The larger the TV the less impressive the picture becomes - period.

Just like SD TV is 480i, the largest sets gave a big picture, but not a better one. The number of lines did not increase. Same here.

Besides, do I really want a TV that may be sucking 500 watts of power just to watch the evening news?

I read an article about the Sharp 103-inch TV that they've developed. It takes six men, and about $45,000, just to set it up! Must be what this guy paid that much for.

(I guess Sharp really guards the security of their plant sites, too. Employees cannot have cell-phones on the premises, and their uniforms are color-coded to the location where they work so that only those with certain colors are allowed in certain areas of their plants sites and not anywhere else. You'd know immediately if someone were in the wrong place in their plants.)

The Sony Flat Panel 70-inch LCD is $35,000; and an employee of the Denver Sony Style store said they've sold one there (this was a couple months ago). But then, it's in the Cherry Creek Mall, which is located very near the ritzy area of Denver, where the Dynasty house is located and where many homes are in the multi-mil range.

My 42 inch plasma sucks nearly 500 watts. But I dont waste it on the evening news. I watched Minority Report again this weekend. We started on the plasma which was really nice. Then we moved into the bedroom which has a 24 inch CRT. Holy crap what a difference.

Anyways totally besides the point. I would go for the new Sony Projector for 15K I heard its trully awsome. But then if I had money to blow like wind... Why not get whatever is best.... 90K or more who cares.

My front projector effectively doubles that size for just a fraction of the price.
