NPD Sales Results for January 2010

The Target I was in over the weekend was sold out of PS3s as a guy who was there to buy one was shocked, lol.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. Square likely know that most people who are interested already own a PS3 or are more likely to buy a PS3. Why not take a few million in marketing dollars.

The fact that FFvXIII is still exclusive to PS3 (and looks to remain that way) makes Sony's job very easy, if you want to play the full series, you can only get it on one console. Chuck in that vXIII is made by Nomura in the adverts and it should be a pretty successful campaign.

Also the game is just ok, nothing special (though I am playing in Japanese). It's not bad by any means, it's just not as good as FFVI or FFVIII (which I am also playing through). It's a bit tooooo linear, and with vXIII said to have an over world like VII/III/IX and an airship I think I (and a lot of PS FF gamers) would prefer it.

It does, but you can't really use it. Well I haven't been able to anyway. I can't see why you would though as there aren't any reasons to revisit places and there is no over world.

Kind of deal breaker for me. FFX was pretty linear to an extent, but there was still plenty to do and explore. however from what i've been hearing, this game is even more linear than that. I may be renting this one and just wait for vXIII

Even if these bundle and dlc exclusives have hardly any effect, it's still so lame to see this happening. The ps3 one appears to be selling way better than the 360 (on amazon anyways). It sucks to see the loyal fans be screwed out of content.

It's not content, it's avatar items. MS called it exclusive DLC to grab headlines is all. Basically what PS3 users get as trophy unlock items, 360 ones get as LE only DLC.

I thought that 500k number was world wide.

If so there's no way it'll show up in February NPD.

Yes WW, ~200k in US (150k tracked by NPD in Jan, 50k in Feb), ~250k in PAL and 35k in Japan for ~500k WW.

Anyhow, Sony confirmed they had retail shortages and will have next month too. March will be when they get a proper amount of stock in place.

Well, I will have participated in 2 sales for February

Having a little bit of extra cash in hand, I bought one 250gb for the living room (relegating the 40Gb to the bedroom, finally), and bought one as a gift for a friend whom I owed on more than one occasion (with KZ2 along)

I casually went into a Best Buy today in NYC to get a 2nd PS3 for my living room and was shocked they didn't have any. The Gamestop stores didn't have any either.

Its already Mid-Feb. and they still haven't caught up from the X-mas sales. Maybe there is a new SKU coming out. 500gig PS3 would be awesome. It could fit those PS2 games that were rumored to come out.

I'm not expecting good feb npd numbers either. I haven't seen a single store stock a ps3 in weeks.

The Local Best Buy still has 3 PS3s in stock, but they are in a ridiculous bundle, basically forcing you to pay full price for a 70$ HDMI cable, plus an extra controller and a Blu-Ray remote, for the "bargain" price of 425$. Great bundle that Best Buy.

Hmm, I think to bundle hardware retailer must have a certain percentage of unbundled hardware for sale. If you want one you can ask Best Buy to sell it to you unbundled for the base price, if the salesman doesn't do it then ask for the manager and if he doesn't do it tell him to call Sony and they will force him to sell it to you if there are no unbundled consoles available.

For the anecdote, when I went to one of the biggest BB in Phoenix to buy my 250Gb, they had -2- PS3s on the shelf. 1x 120Gb, 1x 250gb.
Dunno if they had stocks in reserve.

I have a launch 60gig that is breaking down on me Sony wanted $150 to trade it in for a new one. Why would I downgrade? I might be in the market for a new one while I send mine out for repair.
