these are:

FVD (Forward versatile disk)
doesn't seem like much of a contender basicly a improved dvd with multiple layers can hold 15gb. but it is cheaper that either blu or hd dvd

HDVMD (versatile Multilayer Disc)
uses a red ray laser and a form of enhancement allowing it to hold lots of layers allowing for currently 30gb per side but that is improving

UDO (ultra Density Optical)
uses same technology as a blu ray it currently has 60gb per layer discs but is more costy than blus

LS-R
it stacks lots of layers of blu-ray tech could hold 1 terabite of data but its in quite low stages of development

FVD - DOA
HDVMD - no long term advantages over Blu-ray
UDO - storage capacity not big enough to warrant scrapping Blu-ray
LS-R - Too far down the road and too expensive
