That was the dumbest ending ever. It totally didn't fit with the movie at all! And made Creasy's reasons for killing pointless.

It is a very interesting ending in this way: there is some psychoanalytic theory that questions "when we have done everything we need to/can in life, what happens next?" The logical response is to restart. This may be through a nervous breakdown, regression, just stepping away from the problem, or even death. This idea is used a lot in film, in general. Man on Fire articulates this perfectly. Creasy did what he was supposed to do, he did all that he could do, the only left to do was die. |

This theory works well for films like Gladiator, Fight Club, Pi, and even Full Metal Jacket. |

My favorite line will always be." A man can be an artist... in anything, food, whatever. It depends on how good he is at it. Creasey's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece." Or something very much like that. It was delivered so perfectly by Walken. Great show, in it's second remake as I think it was done twice before. It turns out this movie is a remake of Scott Glenn's Italy-set Man on Fire from 1987 — adapted from the same A.J. Quinnell novel.
But I like this version better. |

Odd how things work out. And I guess the story really stuck with Arnon Milchan (the producer of both versions) and really wanted to get it right. Damn good movie. One of Washington's best performances too for my money. |
