Unless my TV breaks, is stolen, or I win the lottery, theres no chance I'm upgrading until at least 2014.

If the number of 3D material dramatically increases between now and then, and the premium on 3D TV's is small, then I'll upgrade.

Maybe in a few years when I need a new tv and plan on upgrading anyways. I could care less about 3d.

It won't for me (at least I don't think so) because for the most part, I expect it to be an inferior viewing experience. That is, I don't think the technology is there yet. If it's like the theaters, it's not as sharp and that would seem to negate one of the reasons for high definition. Also, again, if it's like the theaters (I actually expect it to be worse than what the theaters provide), I can barely tolerate it due to eye strain. I spent the first 40 minutes of Avatar debating whether to leave and go to the 2D showing and it's supposed to be the best available. Eventually, I adjusted to it but afterwards, my eyes were really fatigued and like I said, I expect that to be even worse at home. I'm definitely looking forward to checking it out in a store though. If they've somehow perfected 3D at home, then yeah, maybe I'd feel like my 2D blus were somewhat obsolete but I'd still be happy with them. Also, even with perfect 3D, I'm not sure I'd want to see all movies in 3D. Heh, short answer: no.

Edit: Looks like I could have been wrong by saying I expect the home version to be much worse. According to a link at Digital Bits that leads to the home theater forum, they said the 3D they've seen looks as good as the theaters.

The answer is NO and I have no interest in moving to 3D. In fact, I'm getting just a little bit tired of all of the garbage which is released on Blu currently. 3D will only mean more additional garbage because not all of the 3D will rise to the level of Avatar. And last but most important, I'm more interested in owning decent catalog titles on Blu and am beginning to find it a HO HUM kind of thing that mostly special effects/CGI and animation are the films generally released on BLU.

At $135 per pair of glasses it should look better. But that is just me.
And they say they are heavy. Which means they will be very uncomfortable to those that already wear glasses.

Oh yes, the 3D does make the 2D feel obsolete. In fact the difference is so dramatic that I am personally not willing anymore to pay to see a movie in a theater if it is not in 3D.

However, I'm not really surprised to see that many people are not ready yet for the next BEST in the movie industry. With a huge percent of the population still not convinced that bluray offers a significant improvement over standard DVD this opposition to anything NEW is to be expected from the uneducated masses.

I hope the 2D bluray will become soon a thing of the past right there with the standard DVD and we will be able to experience this fantastic 3D world in our own houses. The 3D is such a giant leap from the flat, boring 2D experience that I feel like it cannot be implemented soon enough.

Nope, because I don't plan on putting on articles of clothing (i.e. sunglasses) to watch a movie in my own house.

That means every time I get up to take a leak, kiss my wife, check on my kids, top off my drink, get Salt & Vinegar chips, check my e-mail, etc., during a movie I'll have to take off the glasses, then put them back on. (Not really a hassel, but come on, it's stupid).

I'm not making this leap.

Would not be surprise at all that he was. See how many post you get on here that are saying "I don't watch DVD anymore, I only watch BD". I am not surprise that more and more comments of "no more 2D for me only 3D" are not that far away. Some people are extremist in everything they do

Well, for those people that will abandon their BDs immediately, I feel bad for them. Is there even anything out in 3D right now? Are they just going to watch Shrek 1, 2, and 3 day after day after day for 6 months?

I agree. I came across a 3D demo of Monsters vs Aliens the other day at Best Buy, and I have to tell you it is a completely new movie watching experience. It was so real. I felt like I was looking out the window. It was just spectacularly amazing. I think my next TV upgrade will have to be 3D capable. I know there's not much content out right now but in a couple years I'll be getting myself a 3D set for sure.

To the people dissing on 3D TV, you probably haven't seen a demo yet. I recommend you reserve your judgment after seeing a demo. At first I was like most of you here thinking 3D is just gimmick but after seeing how awesome it is, I just have to say I'm blown away by the new experience and can't wait for more content out so I get myself a set sooner.

When the time comes that 3D proves that it's not just another fad (as it has been, many times, over the last few decades), then maybe I'll get excited.

My local best buy has the Samsung 3D display setup with 4 pairs of glasses and the Monters vs. Aliens demo. It's pretty cool, but not cool enough for me to jump. Glasses are $150 a pair . Family of six and little kids... no way.

It's also my opinion that it is going to be much better on a large screen. I think much of the effect is lost even on a 55" display. I will wait and see, and won't even consider being an early adopter. I would however be very interested when the tech finds it's way into a projector and you can have the the big screen 3-D experience at home. Hopefully by then it will be much more affordable, better implemented and perfected and monoprice will have 3D glasses for $5 . Of course this is only my opinion, but right now... not interested.

I'm not making this leap.
If you're doing all that stuff while you're watching a movie, then you're not really getting into it and paying attention anyway, so 3D wouldn't enhance your experience much at all, and there wouldn't be any point in you spending your money on it.
