I'm considering making a subtrap for my Mirage Omni S10.
It will measure 16 1/2" x 17 1/2" by 8" deep with no edges. Any suggestions on what to stuff the box with? Also, how thick do you feel the carpet should be?

Get the lowest PFC fiberglass you can, and pull it apart like cotton candy. Make sure you use a mask and gloves when you do. The idea is to space out the fiber as much as you can. This summer I'll be working on a possible replacement, but at 8" deep fiberglass might be your best option. Make sure the fabric covering the gaps is something you can easily breathe through and make sure the gaps are fairly large.

If you plan to use fiberglass, buy a high quality mask. Fibeglass is a health hazard.

I agree !

The thing that worries me about Fiberglass is Vibrations Transferred from the sub to the Riser . Fiberglass vibrating loose & starting to Float around . There is A chance it gets out into the room !

It won't. Ethan Winer talks about using uncovered fiberglass panels, as long as you don't physically disturb (by that I mean rub up against it) the panels he didn't have problems with fiber strands. Anyways, the grill cloth is much denser threading then burlap which is commonly used to cover fiberglass panels used in sound rooms. It really isn't a problem, just as long as you are careful when initially shredding the fiberglass.

Thanks for the reminder about Fiberglass.

What I'm seeing here is roughly 3 versions of risers.
The table top style, open framed box and a solid box (which is what I was considering).
Are there any cons soundwise to not pick one "style" over another?

It seems to me the solid box with stuffing and carpet covered is the easiest to build.

I'm not sure I want to deal with Fiberglass so i'll likely go with one of the foams previously mentioned.

Boxes like that tend to resonate, if you are going to build one for a sub I'd suggest that you brace it really well or fill it with playsand. The shorter style riser has the advantage of isolating the sub. The advantage of the open riser is it has added benefit of reducing energy in the vertical node. Any of them is better then nothing in most cases.

Congratulations. Great job and beautiful risers. When are we invited to Montreal to audition them? The weather is getting nicer and I don't mind a stroll along the St. Lawrence river to remember the good old days.

Thanks dude! I had a ruff idea of what I wanted it to look like and then noticed pics of the eD riser and it was pretty much dead on... My idea was using the full bottom part of the foam block not the upper "L" shape. But I liked this better!

Anytime dude! Let me know a couple of day's in advance so I can get some nice AAA meat and grill up some food or a few stacks of ribs! And I could always use some "pro on-site" tips from the master

The floor ones are pretty cheap and easy to make. That box wouldn't resonate, but it wouldn't really provide isolation either.

I agree with Kareface.... It cost me about $25 a piece to make my newest risers. Swing by a HomeDepot and check out the left over wood section. The first riser I made for my AA sub cost me $30 but I had two pieces of 2x4's for the base.

Looks good! Could you put a shroud or something around the legs, or are you planning on leaving it open with the foam visible?
