Well if the twins are willing to pony up the cash to mauer, then i still have hope that my brewers will sign Fielder. I still think that Fielder will test FA since he's a Boras client. Thats the reason i've been hoping they would trade fielder for the last year or so and just stock up on pitching.

Looks like Joba will be in the bullpen all season. They really need to make up their minds..the poor guy has to keep changing his entire program. First he was setup-man for Mo..then they made him a starting pitcher (bad idea)..now he's back where he started but it's going to take a while for him to get back to where he was. I actually thought Hughes was good as the 8th inning setup man. We'll see what happens.

Dunno, Twins are nefarious when it comes to paying free agents.

Go Jays! No Expectations, gonna be great!

I got "In the Action" seats(the ones beside and in front of the Jays dugout) for the Yankee Vs Blue Jays in early June. Will be my daughter's first game. Pretty excited!

My confession

I'm a huge Mets fan. To say the last few seasons have been tough would be an understatement. All the promise of the 2006 team has evaporated with late season collapses and last year's nightmare season. With last year's bad team followed by an uninspiring off season I was begining to think I just couldn't go through the dissapointment again. I never want to be a fair- weather fan but I just wasn't excited at all about this year.
Happily enough spring training came around. There's just something special and optomistic about watching your team mold into shape. The new season is upon us , everybody is tied for first place, and last year is gone. I'm not saying my team will be any better this year. What I am saying is that I'm finally excited to find out what they will be. God bless baseball, bring on the season!

LOL this isn't 1989 ... and the Jays would have been #1 anyway lol

But hey all it takes is bad luck for teams to fall apart... who knows... the aging Yanks could end up with 4 or 5 regulars with blown knees...

Red Sox could end up with 3 guys needing Tommy John surgery... who knows!

Hope the Rays have a good season though... as they are about to lose all their players to FA... yikes.

I hate guessing because I seriously hate two of the teams but here goes

1. Yanks - no comment
2. Rays - still a great team, but they need to win now!
3. Red Sox - I think they will be a little worse than the past couple of years...
4. Blue Jays - Lind, Hill and a ton of good pitchers will give the Jays some hope this season
5. Orioles - sorry, I like the O's, but I think they signed too many WTF players in the off season... spent alot of money on older players.

If we're doing AL East predictions, I'd go...

1 - Yankees
2 - Red Sox
3 - Blue Jays
4 - Rays
5 - Orioles

I think the Red Sox will probably win the wild card, but who knows. As hc said, a bit of bad luck could ruin the Yankees' season. I also never like when a team has major changes (unless they are coming off a bad year... then it can't really get any worse).

But they took a World Series winning team, and gave it a bit of a makeover.

Pettitte, CC and AJ were the only regulars in the rotation last year, and they're back again this season.

Adding Vasquez into the mix seems like it can only be a good thing. If he sucks, they can do some sort of crazy mix of pitchers to fill out the rotation like they did last year.

Joba in the bullpen seems like the right idea. If any of the starters can go 6 innings, you can count on Joba to pitch the 7th and 8th, hand it over to Mo in the 9th, and the game is over.

This almost recalls the days of the '98 Yankees, where they essentially shortened games to 6 innings, because the opponent knew they had no chance to score in the last 3.

And 2 innings out of Joba might seem like a lot... but he was being considered as a starter. Obviously he can't pitch every night, but every other night should be doable.

Granderson is probably my most anticipated new player on the team. I can't wait to see what he does.

But I'm also worried that the lack of veteran hitters like Matsui and Damon might come back to bite them late in the season, when they look to their bench for a key pinch-hitter, and find nothing.

Still kind of bummed that Melky is gone. Not my favorite player, but I liked him. And I wonder how his absence will affect Cano, since they were best friends/roommates.

Oh, and I know my post sounded a bit confusing, because I said I don't like when they make major changes, but then I seemed to imply every change was a positive one.

To clear that up, I think on paper (e.g. stats-wise) all the changes make sense.

But when you mix up a team that much, who knows what it does to the team chemistry, and I think that plays a big role in the success of a team.

Anyway, no predictions from me but I'd like to say that spring must officially be here - we're starting to talk serious baseball once again!

toef- I agree...Cano lost his buddy. They even drove to the stadium together. The Melk Man did a good job in the outfield. He will be missed. Him and Cano were the youngest ones on the team. It's good to have that energy because it fires up the older players.

Hc- I was wondering where you got around to! I see you're sporting the Majestic therma base fleece..that's a comfy sweater. Of course it looks best with the interlocking N Y :

O's rule no matter what toefer says

I still think the sox at their best is the best team in the division/MLB

That rotation performing good
1. Beckett
2. Lester
3. Lackey
4. Dice-K
5. Wakefield
6. Buchholz

that rotation not even counting the bullpen/ pap and bard is by far the best if they don't get hurt or slump it.

It's certainly the best rotation in the division, but to win in the AL you need to score runs, and their lineup seems a bit weak. I thought the Yankees were an old team... but look at the Red Sox.

Yeah, I heard about this on TV earlier. Kind of scary. Apparently he was too shaken up to finish the game (the link might have mentioned that, but I didn't read it).

I agree but it's sorta payback for when the 'Sox did it after they won the Series. How will Damon, Matsui, and Melky get their rings? I'm guessing Fedex lol...A shame they won't be there because they were a part of the team and helped earn another title.
