I think the strategy is moreso aimed at the "good enough" HD buyers that will be out and about this holiday season.

Think about the 45 year old woman shopping for her husband who wants an HDTV and a high def player of some sort. She sees a 46" 1080p for $3000, right next to it is a 46" Vizio for $700, what will she buy?

Okay, the TV is purchased, now she needs a player. Well, here's one for $400, but here's one right beside it for $100. Guaranteed she'll buy the $100 player, oblivious as to which movies are available on which format.

No doubt they'll move plenty of players, but it most likely won't be enough to make any significant impact on the overall outcome of the "war."
