IMPRESSIVE this is a 6/5 PQ it REALLY is astounding

This really shows that 3D will never replace 2D because AVATAR was amazing to see in 3D and its even more amazing in 2D on blu ray!
Wow, can't wait to watch mine. I haven't seen the movie yet, and it sounds like a treat. My wife saw it in 3d and loves the movie.

Got my copy at Target this morning and I just finished watching the movie. No eco-case here, that may be because I bought the BD+DVD version but I think that's the only version available on BD, right? Anyway it looks amazing, it has the quality of a Pixar flick. I've yet to see a live action movie that looks like this. Although, live action is debatable because a majority of the flick is CGI heavy. I read a review where the reviewer said the live action stuff was not as great looking as the CGI stuff. Meh, the whole thing looks great to me, if you want to be picky the live action stuff can be a bit soft. That's really just being overly picky. I'll also state that while I loved the 3D in the theater I actually enjoyed the movie better in 2D, it really doesn't lose any of it's luster in 2D. Oh an what about that DVD, the quality is atrocious. There is no way anyone can tell me that they didn't purposefully make the DVD transfer worse to show off the BD. They do that alot now. I have some DVD's that look quite good for a DVD and this movie should look amazing on DVD as well. Most of the animated stuff (for example Pixar) still looks good on DVD so there is no reason other than studio politics for this DVD to look as sh*tty as it does. Whatever the BD looks awesome and I can't imagine anyone who enjoys the film to have a problem with it.

3D in the year 2020 will be much improved from 3D in the year 2010.

Yes, its still early

If they can combine the quality of the Avatar blu WITH 3D and have no loss of color

That would be BEYOND amazing

I can't see my opinions changing much on it but it definitely doesn't make my top 10 films right now. It's pretty much all movies of the past rolled into one... just a bunch of "been there, done that" nonsense.
While I agree that the movie is far from revalatory I find the current opinion of modern movie goers that everything needs to be extremely original a bit off. Let's face facts it's pretty much ALL been done before. You're hard pressed to find any movie so original that it hasn't been done in some way before. Just give me a good story and something interesting or shocking or whatever to watch and I'm happy. I can appreciate the cheesiest and most inane crap right up to the biggest blockbuster equally the same, it just depends on my mood.

Yeah i didnt get the eco case either and i picked mine up at target as well. I wasn't going to get another fox movie with avatar until i seen austrailia for $15 - the $3 off promo so i picked it up for $12 out the door. Avatar looks amazing on blu ray. I'd have to say avatar and all my pixar movies are my reference titles to show off great picture/sound.

I find the audio is much quieter than the large majority of DTS tracks I have heard.

That's not a problem or anything, as I just have to turn it up a little louder. Just a random observation.

Samsung BD-P1400 (I know it sucks, but haven't had any problems like THIS before). Latest firmware 04/02/2010. Nothing I've done has helped, it happens as often as 3 times within 30 seconds, at longest 45-50 seconds between timeline popups. No keys on the remote remove it, not exit, return, any of the directional keys, or enter. The only thing that prevents it from popping up is having the popup menu already up the entire time, which is marginally better, but that eventually goes away after a minute or two, at which time popups resume.

It's pretty much unwatchable. I liken it to someone holding up a piece of cardboard in front of the screen for 3 seconds every 30 seconds.

I apologize if this has been mentioned before or not, but was there a coupon out there for the Blu-ray edition of this movie? I really want to go buy it, but I hesitated in doing so because I assumed there was a coupon out there? Can somebody fill me in if there is a coupon out there or if there isn't?

If you have a Hastings near you, you can get it for $13.99 after trade-in of a select movie. Excellent deal, IMO. Target and Amazon both have it for $19.99 and both will take $3 off that if you buy another select blu.

Thank you for sharing that highly useful information. Now we can all enjoy the audio because you have approved it.

[Show spoiler] Long time since I have harassed you.

My samsung bd1600 says it needs a firmware update, but I did the most recent one a few weeks ago and it is connected to an ethernet cable so it should ask me to update to the newest firmware if needed. When I put the disc in a red screen pops up and says may need new firmware update. Is there a setting or did samsung miss this?

I'm waiting for the sun to go down to fire it up - for "pitch black" in my HT.

It will be the FIRST time in 2D...
